Transportation Manager manages and coordinates the daily operations of a transportation network including safety, compliance, equipment, and staff. Implements operational policies and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency in all transportation activities. Being a Transportation Manager monitors transportation costs, service level agreements, and performance metrics to identify and resolve problems and achieve efficiencies. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to meet forecasted capacity needs. Additionally, Transportation Manager manages relations with transportation providers to ensure the achievement of required service levels. Requires a bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain management, or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Transportation Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Transportation Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Transportation Aggregate Manager

  • What you will do:
    Managing the transportation and aggregate department, as well as adhering to all Safety Regulations and procedures. The Transportation/Aggregate Manager will be responsible for creating and adhering to the yearly budget, planning the daily activities, coordinating the effective/efficient routing of vehicles, directing and supervises GCC professional drivers.

    What you will do:
    • Responsible and accountable for “Safety” within your direct reports
    • Ensures that all drivers/equipment operators are trained to follow established company safety and environmental policies, programs, and practices.
    • Involved in ensuring that Safety topics and safety training are occurring daily.
    • Aid in safety investigation accidents and incidents and take disciplinary action within a timely manner justified to the accident or incidents.
    • Report all accidents via telephone immediately followed up by an email to all concerned.
    • Oversee all aspects of the aggregate/transportation departments.
    • Assist in planning the yearly budget and tracking monthly budgets results to assure compliance and/or explain out of compliance results.
    • Review financial reports and be able to explain variances as needed.
    • Develop partnerships with external and internal customers. Create a culture where that embraces customer service and seek to build deep lasting relationships with every level of customer organizations.
    • Manage performance of direct reports with emphasis on productivity, efficiency, safety, and service delivery.
    • Recruit, interview, select, train, motivate, coach, and mentor direct reports.
    • Ensures that all applicable company policies/procedures are followed by our professional drivers.
    • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of State and Federal DOT regulations and requirements.
    • Assist in the identification and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities and customer satisfaction opportunities.
    Experience and abilities you will need:
    • Minimum 5 years of work experience in transportation/aggregate related industry with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role. Dispatch experience strongly preferred.
    • High school diploma or equivalent required. Prefer degree or additional training/education in logistics management.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with multiple tasks and priorities.
    • Interpersonal skills: Ability to resolve employee performance issues and conflicts. Must be able to manage an empowered workforce, lead by example and be an effective coach.
    • Communication skills: Ability to communicate performance expectations and work assignments to employees and to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
    • Strong computer skills (experience with systems - e.g. Command, Success Factors). Highly proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
