Transportation Manager manages and coordinates the daily operations of a transportation network including safety, compliance, equipment, and staff. Implements operational policies and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency in all transportation activities. Being a Transportation Manager monitors transportation costs, service level agreements, and performance metrics to identify and resolve problems and achieve efficiencies. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to meet forecasted capacity needs. Additionally, Transportation Manager manages relations with transportation providers to ensure the achievement of required service levels. Requires a bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain management, or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Transportation Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Transportation Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Job Summary

    Pacific Channel Transportation is seeking an Operations Manager in Pasco, WA. The perfect candidate is dynamic, can pivot quickly, is flexible, possesses exceptional leadership skills and understands how critical it is to uphold the needs of the customer. This person is always looking for ways to engage their employees and make the workplace more effective and efficient. Other vital qualities include understanding finances, supply chain management, workflow, and staffing coordination.

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Responsible for ensuring quality service and exceeding our customers’ expectations.
    • Ability to be flexible with travel, up to 20%
    • This position will start as a NIGHT SHIFT during training (2 weeks) in order to get acclimated to the operation. During the training period, the hours will be 8:00pm-3:00am. Following training, hours will be 7:00am-5:00pm.
    • Monitoring all processes, procedures and employees by ensuring proper training in necessary skill sets and procedures to maintain or improve existing processes or procedures as needed.
    • Out of the box thinker that is always striving to improve.
    • Assist with prospective candidate interviews, new hire training and pre-employment road tests.
    • Be accountable for carrier performance, including setting service expectations, monitoring service and financial performance and holding carriers accountable.
    • Provide logistical analytics, reporting and analysis for perpetual evaluation of network optimization, productivity, cost control, customer service and freight cost.
    • Manage all aspects of performance, accountability and development of direct reports to maintain a high level of performance and encourage professional growth.
    • Promote a safe environment and meet all safety requirements complying with company policies and industry regulations.
    • Any additional duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 5 years' experience in related industry.
    • Minimum 5 years of management and knowledge of shipping and transportation.
    • Requires intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward.
    • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
    • Clean Motor Vehicle Record and Background.
    • Ability to load and unload heavy items up to 70 lbs.
    • Must pass DOT physical, criminal check and drug screen.
    • Qualified candidates are self-motivated, with excellent leadership skills, responsible, highly organized, and able to multitask in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment, all with a positive attitude.
