Transportation Manager manages and coordinates the daily operations of a transportation network including safety, compliance, equipment, and staff. Implements operational policies and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency in all transportation activities. Being a Transportation Manager monitors transportation costs, service level agreements, and performance metrics to identify and resolve problems and achieve efficiencies. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to meet forecasted capacity needs. Additionally, Transportation Manager manages relations with transportation providers to ensure the achievement of required service levels. Requires a bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain management, or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Transportation Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Transportation Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • Position Title:  Transportation Manager Starting Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000 Reports To:     Assistant Superintendent, Operations     Minimum Qualifications and Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent, college degree preferred Possession of or ability to obtain CDL-B, Passenger Endorsement, School Bus Certificate, Air Brake Three years of supervisory transportation experience (Experience in pupil transportation preferred) Strong interpersonal skills Strong communication skills Experience in transportation organization and management preferred   Specific Core Function: Performs all tasks related to the administration of regular school transportation and charter functions, fleet management, and inventory systems management according to School District Policy, budgetary guidelines and best business practices. Ensures the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of student transportation services for the District. Facilitates the Scheduling of sport/extracurricular trips Prepares and processes all invoices for completed trips   Responsibilities of the Position: Ensures all MSD standards, policies, and procedures for operations are in place and met. Ensures operation of service meets the highest standard through documentation of performance using accurate and timely reports. Shares supervision of the Transportation Coordinator with the Director of Transportation. Supervises dispatcher to ensure proper training, they are motivated, they motivate others, and they are following MSD policies and procedures. Monitors manpower carefully and plans in advance to ensure adequate coverage for all service needs.  Covers service as needed in emergencies. Acts as liaison to the MTA for discipline, routing, and scheduling services.     Supervisory Responsibilities – Required Special Qualifications: Shared (with Transportation Director) supervision of: Transportation Coordinator - Evaluator Transportation Training Officer - Transportation Dispatcher - Evaluator Clerical Support Personnel     Assignments and Committees: Highly visible position with the general public including attendance at Board of School Committee as needed.  Expected to conduct regular communication sessions with staff and maintain positive, open communications with School Administration. Will also be expected to perform all other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent, Operations or their designee.   Specified Length/Hours of Position: This is a non-affiliated 228-day position.  This position is a salaried position that requires a minimum of 40 hours per week including weekend, holiday, and evening work as needed.  This position is also “on-call” as needed to ensure proper operational management coverage.     See out job posting on our website to read the full job description and apply.
