Transportation Manager manages and coordinates the daily operations of a transportation network including safety, compliance, equipment, and staff. Implements operational policies and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency in all transportation activities. Being a Transportation Manager monitors transportation costs, service level agreements, and performance metrics to identify and resolve problems and achieve efficiencies. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to meet forecasted capacity needs. Additionally, Transportation Manager manages relations with transportation providers to ensure the achievement of required service levels. Requires a bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain management, or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Transportation Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. What You Will Do
The Transportation Team Member is primarily responsible for handling inbound and outbound drivers at the Distribution Center’s Transportation Center. This role processes the paperwork for drivers, receives product in the Data Management System (DMS) and prepares shipping documents for outbound trucks. The individual in this role is expected to provide exemplary customer service and serves as “the face of Lowe’s” to drivers who enter the facility grounds. In addition, this role is responsible for coordinating traffic on the facility yard and monitoring movements of trailers from and to the docks.
What We're Looking For
• Required to work a set schedule that may be changed/modified by management based on the needs of the facility.
• Requires availability to work morning, afternoon, nights, or weekends depending upon assigned shift and overtime based on the needs of the facility.
• Must work in a distribution/warehouse environment with the physical and environmental aspects typically associated with such environment.
• Minimally must be able to lift 25 pounds; ability to lift up to 70 pounds.
What You Need To Succeed
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Demonstrated track record of good attendance
• Basic math and reading comprehension skills
• Basic computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Strong safety orientation
Preferred Qualifications
• Post-secondary education in business, supply chain management, transportation or related field
• Experience in a customer service role
• Experience using troubleshooting processes to resolve problems
• Experience in distribution center operations
• Experience using a data management system
