Transportation Director directs, develops, and implements overall operations of a transportation network including safety, compliance, equipment, and staff. Develops and directs operational policies and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency in all transportation activities. Being a Transportation Director monitors transportation costs, service level agreements, and performance metrics to identify and resolve problems and achieve efficiencies. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to forecast and meet capacity needs. Additionally, Transportation Director oversees the acquisition and oversight of transportation providers. Requires a bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain management, or equivalent. Typically reports to top management. The Transportation Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Transportation Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. While working for the Caltrans Division of Equipment (DOE) , in an Equipment Shop, the Equipment Materiel Specialist (EMS) receives supervision from the Equipment Materiel Manager I / II, and day-to-day direction from the Senior Equipment Materiel Specialist. Performs Equipment Materiel Operations work concerning the purchasing, inventory, disbursement, shipping and receiving of equipment parts, materiel, related equipment and services for the fabrication, maintenance, repair and disposal of mobile equipment.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Equipment Materiel Specialist Exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g. transfer, permissive reinstatement or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Working Conditions
Position located in Ukiah, Mendocino County.
Incumbent will work primarily in the shop parts department adjacent to the shop. At times, it will be necessary to work in outside storage areas, warehouse, distant field mechanic locations, or highway maintenance warehouses. Incumbent may / will be exposed to dirt, noise, uneven surfaces, hazardous materials and various temperatures. May be subject to travel, rotation, changes of shift, work hours and workdays, and mandatory overtime. Must be able to work during emergency or declared emergency situations.
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.Minimum Requirements
