Transportation Director directs, develops, and implements overall operations of a transportation network including safety, compliance, equipment, and staff. Develops and directs operational policies and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency in all transportation activities. Being a Transportation Director monitors transportation costs, service level agreements, and performance metrics to identify and resolve problems and achieve efficiencies. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to forecast and meet capacity needs. Additionally, Transportation Director oversees the acquisition and oversight of transportation providers. Requires a bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain management, or equivalent. Typically reports to top management. The Transportation Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Transportation Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.   • SOUTH KINGSTOWN SCHOOL DEPARTMENT Position: Assistant Director of Facilities and Transportation Summary: The Assistant Director is responsible for the supervision of the district custodial staff, periodic cleaning crew, and the overall effectiveness of the cleaning program in the district. This position provides direct supervision to the night staff and close coordination with the daytime custodians and maintenance team. This position works closely with the Director for planning of future projects and maximizing efficiency. Essential Duties: 1.Supervision of the district custodial staff. 2.Monitors facilities structural needs and enters work orders. 3.Budgeting and ordering of custodial equipment and supplies. 4.Developing and monitoring of a task specific program for custodians in each building. 5.Conducting random inspections of all buildings to ensure compliance with the task specific program and that all nightly and periodic cleaning steps are performed. 6.Participates in monthly audits to evaluate the overall effectiveness of our cleaning and safety programs. 7.Training of custodial staff in proper cleaning techniques, safe work practices and safe handling of chemicals. 8.Planning of summer schedules and deployment of staff in relation to building projects and renovation. Ensures each building is ready for the opening of school. 9.Perform energy savings tasks. 10.Coordinates and monitors after school vendor projects. 11.Works with local fire/police/town services during inspections and emergencies. 12.Fills in for the Maintenance Director during periods of absence. 13.Assist in all matters pertaining to student transportation including developing routes, investigating all incidents involving student transportation. 14.Attend School Committee and other district meetings as required. 15.And/or other tasks as assigned by the Director and/or Superintendent of Schools. Knowledge and Skills Required: 1.Supervisory skills. 2.Ability to develop and monitor budgets. 3.Thorough knowledge of green cleaning equipment and supplies. 4.Ability to effectively train staff. 5.Ability to foster a cooperative work environment 6.Knowledge of safe work practices including handling of equipment and cleaning materials.. 7.Knowledge of laws and regulations specific to the custodial function (OSHA, MSDS, etc.) 8.Ability to communicate effectively with staff and building supervision. 9.Experience supervising bargaining unit personnel. 10.Ability to measure and evaluate the quality and quantity of work performed by the custodial staff. This position is primarily a second shift position (2pm – 10pm). Occasionally the position may require work during the first (day) shift. Summer hours are 6:30am – 3pm. This is an exempt position and is not a member of the bargaining unit. Position Type: Full-time, 12 months. Positions Available: 1 Salary Range: $59,000 to $61,000 per year
