Transportation Director directs, develops, and implements overall operations of a transportation network including safety, compliance, equipment, and staff. Develops and directs operational policies and procedures to ensure safety and efficiency in all transportation activities. Being a Transportation Director monitors transportation costs, service level agreements, and performance metrics to identify and resolve problems and achieve efficiencies. Partners with internal and external stakeholders to forecast and meet capacity needs. Additionally, Transportation Director oversees the acquisition and oversight of transportation providers. Requires a bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain management, or equivalent. Typically reports to top management. The Transportation Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Nodaway Valley CSD in SW Iowa seeks a Director of Transportation for the 2024-2025 school year. Must be knowledgeable of Federal and State laws and regulations related to K-12 student transportation. Oversees and ensures compliance with all regulations governing bus driver licensing and Department of Transportation regulations, including background checks and Department of Transportation-required physicals.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to ensure communication between District administration, building principals, transportation staff, and building staff; to execute defined work assignments; to evaluate and solve problems; to recognize and remedy common safety and health hazards.
Knowledge of appropriate maintenance procedures for school vehicles and the ability to maintain vehicle records is preferred. A valid driver’s license and CDL are required.
