Translator translates written and spoken information from one language to another. Reads, comprehends, and rewrites materials in designated languages following established linguistic rules related to word meanings, sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation. Being a Translator must be well versed in vocabulary dealing with specialty. Must follow ethical procedures and policies that protect the confidentiality of information. Additionally, Translator may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Translator gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Westfield Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for interpreter/translator in Spanish to work throughout the District where needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides accurate and concise translations of correspondence, reports, forms, articles, handbooks, technical manuals, legal documents and other instructional and education materials from English to a designated second language from clear copy, rough draft and transcription equipment, proofreads and assures accuracy of translated materials.
- Interprets at a variety of meetings at the district office and school sites between school officials, students and parents/caregivers including IEP meetings; interprets student and parental concerns to school administrators; prepares related records.
- Support families to access community resources as needed to promote student success in school
- Participate in any necessary in-service training.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
REPORTS TO:
Director of Assessment and Accountability
Non-contract employee, approximately 30 hours per week.
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation.
