Translator translates written and spoken information from one language to another. Reads, comprehends, and rewrites materials in designated languages following established linguistic rules related to word meanings, sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation. Being a Translator must be well versed in vocabulary dealing with specialty. Must follow ethical procedures and policies that protect the confidentiality of information. Additionally, Translator may require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Translator gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.       Reporting Relationships
      Reports to: General supervision is received from the Refugee Social Services Coordinator
      Supervision Exercised: None

      Job Summary

      To interpret for participants who are entering the program. Assist in the direct services as needed by refugee new arrivals for eligibility and services related to case management, and employment. Represent participants and advocate for them in various capacities as related to program guidelines.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Related duties may be assigned.

      • Provide interpretation and translation to participants and program staff.
      • Assist with assigned services, records, reports and program development.
      • Accompany participants to various meetings and appointments.
      • Work with program staff to ensure that case notes and follow up services are completed.
      • Filing and general office duties
      • Maintaining case files and updating as needed.
      • Assist with testing and assessment as needed.
      • Attend and participate in conferences and workshops as they relate to job duties.
      • Show flexibility and tolerance in dealing with persons from disadvantaged social, economic and educational backgrounds.
      • Regular attendance is expected.
      • Using tact and courtesy, the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with persons contacted in the course of work.

      Minimum Qualifications
      High School Diploma required. Some college is preferred or experience in translation. Bilingual in Dari and Pashto, with the ability to read and write in Dari and Pashto.

      Work Environment
      While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting.
