    Job Description Summary:
    The University of Kansas Medical Center is seeking a full-time faculty member to join our team to grow the recently accredited Master of Science in Athletic Training (AT) program. The AT program is housed within the Department of Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation Science, and Athletic Training (PTRSAT), one of the most recognized departments on the medical campus located in urban Kansas City, KS.

    Building on the long history of the BS Athletic Training Program in Lawrence, KS, the AT program continues to expand collaborations with high school, collegiate, and professional sports teams, physicians, and other health care providers in the Kansas City, Lawrence, and surrounding communities to provide quality clinical education to athletic training students.

    The program received notification of initial accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) in February 2023 and will graduate its first cohort in May 2023. The PTRSAT Department provides strong departmental support and infrastructure, collaborative opportunities for teaching and research, and a supportive and collegial work environment. Additionally, the AT program has strong support from KU Athletics and The University of Kansas Health System.

    The Director of Clinical Education will be involved in developing, conducting and coordinating the clinical education component of the AT program in collaboration with the Vice Chair/Founding Program Director and other AT faculty. This individual will be responsible for activities that contribute to the program and department's mission and success, ensuring alignment with the University's mission and strategic plan as it pertains to teaching, research, scholarly contributions, and service.

    Job Description:
    Required Qualifications:
    Master's degree in athletic training, kinesiology, exercise science, rehabilitation science, or related field
    Eligible for licensure as an Athletic Trainer in Kansas
    Certification and in good standing with the Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC)
    Previous clinical practice in athletic training
    Outstanding oral and written communication skills
    Contemporary expertise in athletic training congruent with areas of teaching
    Ability to initiate and exercise independent judgment and decision-making
    Ability to work comfortably with a diverse faculty, workforce, student body, and

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Doctorate in athletic training, kinesiology, exercise science, rehabilitation science, or related field
    Experience with athletic training clinical education and teaching students at the master's level
    Evidence of scholarship in education, athletic training, or related field

    Job Duties Outlined:
    Administrative

    Provide strong and innovative ideas and leadership for the development and execution of the AT program's clinical education component
    Provide oversight of the AT clinical education component of the curriculum including oversight of student clinical progression, student clinical assignments, clinical site evaluation, student evaluation, regular communication with and professional development of preceptors, and preceptor selection and evaluation.
    Develop partnerships and connections with the community, KU Athletics, local health care systems, and other entities related to student recruitment and clinical education placements.
    Prepare and submit reports and maintain appropriate records as necessary to meet administrative and accreditation demands.

    Teaching

    Maintain contemporary expertise in assigned teaching areas.
    Develop, revise, and teach in the AT program that is aligned with the standards for accreditation and the demands/changes of the profession including multi-cultural dimensions within the curriculum,
    Foster advanced and innovative teaching methods (e.g., team teaching, interprofessional education); coaching and mentoring students

    Research

    Design and conduct independent and/or collaborative research/scholarship initiatives that are consistent with institutional and accreditation expectations.
    Seek out funding sources to support research initiatives consistent with institutional expectations.

    Service

    Provide service responsibilities as assigned within the School of Health Professions (SHP) and University committees; promote the SHP and KUMC mission and vision; participate in professional local/state/and national committees and/or elected positions.

    Other

    Foster an environment of diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice in the program, department, and school.
    Engage in interprofessional teaching, research, and service within the department, school, university, and community.
    Assist the Program Director and AT faculty in maintaining accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) and remaining complaint with the CAATE Standards for Professional Education.
    Actively participate in recruiting, admitting, advising and mentoring students
    Participate in clinical practice as warranted
    Other special projects and duties as assigned by the Department Vice-chair and Chair.
