General Summary
The Litigation Supervisor and Training Director will serve as a supervisor of litigation in both capital and non-capital cases. The Litigation Supervisor and Training Director will be a leader within the office and help manage the office alongside the Circuit Public Defender. The Litigation Supervisor and Training Director will serve as lead counsel in several serious felony cases. Also, the Litigation Supervisor and Training Director will serve as a training supervisor for all staff attorneys and will manage case representation within the office.
Brief Description
Directs and manages the litigation and case management operations of the Public Defender’s Office. Supervises evaluates and trains staff attorneys. Oversees all operations including case assignments, docket calls, and plea bargains or settlement negotiations. Performs case evaluation, preparation, and management. Represents the client in pre-trial and evidentiary hearings and jury court trials. Ensures effective communication with judges, prosecuting attorneys, court personnel, family members, witnesses, the general public, the media, and other interested parties. Conducts legal research, drafting legal documents, and interpreting laws, rules, and regulations. Work is performed independently with general direction from the Circuit Public Defender.
