Training Administrator is responsible for the coordination of employee and management training programs. Administers a recordkeeping system to track employee training participation and progress. Being a Training Administrator assists in other administrative and budgeting tasks associated with training programs. Coordinates and tracks participation in outside training activities. Additionally, Training Administrator may coordinate or administer skill or competency assessments, career counseling, outplacement, and other specialized training or development programs for employees. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Training Administrator gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Fire Training Administrator

    WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
    The Fire Training Administrator develops and implements multiple fire service training programs for fire service agencies and organizations statewide.

    Determine training needs; research and develop curriculum.

    Determine standards and certification requirements; and oversee accreditation and certification programs.

    Write course outlines and guides, texts, and training materials.

    Perform administrative duties including preparation and control of budgets, contracts, and agreements; is responsible for grants administration, including issuing awards; inventory, maintenance, and property control.

    Supervise the training staff; make assignments of training activities, locations, and schedules. Monitor and evaluate staff and their training activities. Develop and track training effectiveness through a relevant metrics.
    Serve on related professional advisory committees and provide liaison, coordination, and assistance to fire protection organizations in developing training programs, budgets, legislation, and local fire protection plans.

    The Division of Fire and Life Safety’s Mission is to prevent the loss of life and property from fire and explosion. Fire safety is improved through three means. Enforcement, Engineering, and Education. The Bureau of Fire Accreditation, Standards and Training (BFAST) improves the Education part of the Division’s mission. The mission of BFAST is to provide fire training and public education services to the Alaskan fire service and all sectors of the Alaskan public. The position oversees the Alaska Fire Standards Council (AFSC). The mission of AFSC is to establish professional standards for fire service personnel, and curriculum requirements for the certification of training programs. The Fire Training Administrator is assigned to develop, direct, coordinate and supervise fire suppression training, certification, Alaska Fire Standards Council, and public education programs statewide for local fire departments, and federal and state agencies.]

    Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of fire protection, suppression, and prevention; principles of combustion and causes of fires; methods and equipment for fire prevention and control; statutes and regulations relating to fire protection.

    Ability to organize, administer and supervise the development and implementation of a fire service training programs. Considerable knowledge of principles and methods of teaching and training, materials and curriculum development, and development of instructional materials

    Working knowledge of the principles of supervision and administrative procedures related to program and grants management.

    Ability to effectively manage and supervise staff and develop and control operating and CIP budgets.

    Ability to research and analyze existing problems and situations in both urban and rural locations, with subsequent resolution and implementation.     Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in fire science technology or a closely related field, public administration or education;
    AND
    Two years of experience performing fire service training.

    Substitution: Fire prevention or suppression experience may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.

    Special Note:
    Certification as a fire service instructor is desirable.

    TRAVEL

    This position requires a significant amount of travel both in-state and out-of-state.
