Trader (Government Securities) is responsible for the timely buying and selling of government securities, such as treasury bills, treasury notes, or bonds. Reviews orders to ensure accuracy, proper record keeping, and conformance to regulations. Being a Trader (Government Securities) evaluates market volatility and ensures clients receive the best rate available. Requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty or in a related area and may require state licensure. Additionally, Trader (Government Securities) typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Trader (Government Securities) work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Traders at client Energy come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Exceptional quantitative reasoning and computer proficiency are a must. Nearly all traders have a degree in a STEM field, although this is not absolutely required. All candidates must be able to demonstrate a special ability to create and apply complex quantitative strategies. A passing knowledge of programming and database management is also highly beneficial.
Training will be provided by experienced traders at client to teach new traders about the electricity trading market. A qualified candidate will start generating trades by 3 months, be profitable by 6 months, and consistently successful by 1 year. Exceptionally well performing new traders will move faster.
Compensation is comprised of a base salary, quarterly bonuses as % of trader profit, and benefits. Bonuses are uncapped and are extremely competitive for successful traders. The role requires a different level of commitment and working hours than a typical job. Fully trained traders have the flexibility and independence to do the job how they see fit. Prior to becoming fully trained, new traders will be required to work in person at our Kansas City office. The training process generally takes about 2 years.
