Natural Encounters, Inc., has Seasonal Road Show Keeper/Trainer position available starting April 4, 2024. Contract is until September 4th 2024, for a motivated individual who wants to grow their skills and become a part of a world-renowned animal training and educational facility.
Seasonal Road Show Keeper/Trainer (Providence, RI):
A temporary position as an interim replacement to supplement the workforce. This position begins April 4, 2024, and is of a limited duration (ending September 4th). The seasonal employee will work 39.5 hours per week and cannot exceed more than 1000 hours per year. Seasonal keepers/trainers are responsible for the day to day husbandry, assisting in the management of the animal collection with the possibility of show support. They support, uphold, and promote the goals, purpose and growth of Natural Encounters, Inc. and its affiliates. Applicants must have a strong team work ethic, and a positive attitude in the work environment and is responsible for ensuring the health and welfare of animals in Natural Encounters, Inc. collection.
*This position is located in Providence, RI, at Roger Williams Park Zoo. Housing is not provided and candidate should be local unless arrangements are made by candidate for their own accommodations locally.
Job Duties include:
Ensuring animal welfare is of highest priority
Husbandry-cleaning, scrubbing/disinfecting enclosures
Create and implement approved enrichment
Notifying Senior Staff of any inconsistencies in the health or behavior of animals in the collection
Diet preparation
Assist in Data Entry
May be asked to observe and/or assist full time trainers in training projects.
Show support (Talking on stage, catching and releasing birds backstage, catching birds in the house, etc.)
Qualifications:
Being a team player - works well in a team environment
Ability to maintain a positive attitude in sometimes stressful situations
Should have excellent observational skills and sensitivity to animal behavior
Should be coachable - receive and act on feedback to improve
Must have the ability to learn and follow all the facility's protocols (safety, medical, etc.)
Education:
Highschool diploma or GED
Previous experience in an animal facility is helpful but not required

Ability to adapt to changes in routines
Ability to prioritize tasks and complete on schedule
Ability to work some evenings, weekends, and Holidays
Work in a noisy and sometimes hectic environment
Lift up to 50lbs
