Job Overview
We have a newly created opportunity for a Project Management Office Director to join our corporate IT team. In this role you will be accountable for the planning, coordination, communication, execution, and final delivery of all assigned projects.
Including responsibility for:
- establishing a robust 'Project Governance' framework comprising project planning, cost management and project methodology & standards across the North America Region and Global Mining (NARGM). Note: This will be used to maintain standards, consistency, and governance at the corporate level, whilst allowing flexibility and specialization at the business segment level.
- offering central resources, (people and tools), for reporting and metrics, training and project quality standards and risk management for locally embedded and managed project managers to utilize.
- creating, managing, and reporting on the central portfolio of all NARGM projects.
- during project management meetings with Komatsu senior executives with keeping them appraised of key activities progress and status, aware of any escalations and key decisions needed, and helping them with activities aimed at ensuring commitment to the project goals across the organization.
These will initially be around the establishment and leadership of the Corporate Project Management Office and the tools needed to manage a global project portfolio.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Project Portfolio Management: Manage the NARGM Project Portfolio, help prioritize initiatives and resource allocations with the Business Engagement Teams.
- Process Improvement: Develop, implement, and improve project management methodologies, tools, and processes within the PMO to share with the Business Engagement Project Managers.
- Strategic Planning: Oversee the development and execution of PMO strategies aligned with the overall NARGM IT organizational goals.
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure that PMO objectives and deliverables are met, and expectations are aligned.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation plans to address potential disruptions to the operation of the Corporate PMO.
- Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of project experts and analysts within the PMO. Clearly define, and re-enforce as necessary, the roles and responsibilities of each project team member.
- Resource Management: Manage the resources assigned to the PMO, inc. setting department budget, managing department day-to-day expenditure and time assigned to individual department objectives and deliverables. Review progress regularly and provide early warning and proposed solutions when issues occur.
- Ongoing Professional Development: Maintain knowledge of current project and program management best practices and industry standards.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in IT, IS, computer science, project management or a related field
- 10 years' experience of leading multi-million-dollar global IT and/or Organization Change Management programs consisting of multiple projects across multiple global regions
- Significant experience of working with multiple national cultures ... Japanese experience is highly desirable, also Europe, Australasia, and the Americas
- Ability and willingness to explore and implement innovative project management approaches and adapt to changing priorities.
- Experience in helping to build something from scratch and then scale up as needed.
- Experience in managing vendors and external consultants and integrating them into effective and productive mixed company and vendor teams.
- Able to establish, build upon and maintain positive and effective relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, up, down, and across.
- Self-motivated, with an ability to work and lead with minimal supervision.
- Able to communicate, create consensus and commitment with Senior Executives and throughout the organization
- Strong analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Strong business and financial acumen.
- Able to communicate at all levels and talk and translate both IT and business language.
- Able to coach and mentor Project Manager's... developing their skills and knowledge.
- Experience with multiple development methodologies and tools, i.e., MS Project, Power BI, Agile, Kanban, Waterfall, Lean, Scrum, etc.
