Product Development Engineer

  • Position Summary: 
    The Product Development Engineer works under the general direction of the Product Development Manager & Lead Product Development Engineer. Key responsibilities include assisting with continuous improvement of all current market products as well as the development of new products, product testing, documentation, assembly issues and client issues. Must take a hands-on approach to engineering design and problem solving while working with production, assembly and operations departments to come up with product solutions for existing products and new product design.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 
    • Thrive in an innovative, vertically integrated engineering and production environment 
    • Proven ability to work on more than one project at a time. 
    • Ability to employ practical solutions when necessary as well as being capable to participate in full cycle product development. 
    • Take a hands-on, intensive approach to problem solving, working collaboratively between engineering and manufacturing processes. 
    • Be passionate and dogged about matching the solution to the problem: quick, efficient and well thought out solutions to issues with existing products, devise methods to resolve them using jigs, design modifications and/or process improvements. 
    • Work with the Product Development Manager and Lead Product Development Engineer on new product development projects autonomously. 
    • Testing of new and existing products under the supervision of Lead Product Development Engineer. 
    • Recognize areas where documentation is lacking or required to streamline the flow of engineering information uniformly across all relevant departments. 
    • Responsible for product prototyping and testing stage. Understanding which processes and manufacturing methods are available to efficiently achieve goals in a timely manner. 
    • Perform thorough installation testing to mimic onsite conditions to understand the shortcomings of both new and existing products. 
    • Work with technical documentation to improve documentation where necessary and make sure to keep all documentation up-to-date especially when ECO’s are released. 
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    Minimum Requirements: 
    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering field.   
    • Electromechanical engineering experience required.  
    • At least 5 years of experience in product engineering working with consumer products or related engineering experience.  
    • Proven experience in mechanical design and manufacturing in the product industry.  
    • Demonstrated knowledge designing parts for plastic injection molding, aluminum extrusions, investment castings, and aluminum die casting (including thermal properties thereof).  
    • Knowledge of machining, spinning, metal stamping and laser cutting. 
    • Experience working with rapid prototype design and build for proof of concept, usability testing and with electromechanical design. 
    • Experience with 3D printing. 
    • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills for interaction with various levels of management and customers.  
    • Excellent attention to detail. 
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
