Senior Land Conservation Project Manager for the Northwest

The Senior Project Manager will be joining an experienced, committed, and fast-paced team of conservation real estate professionals working on impactful land transaction projects across the nation. 

    The person in this position will deliver TPL’s mission of conserving land for people by utilizing nonprofit land acquisition techniques and sound business practices. The Senior Project Manager will develop relationships with key stakeholders including local, state and federal agencies, tribes, community groups, and private landowners, to protect priority lands. This Senior Project Manager will focus primarily on land transaction work in the Hood Canal, Olympic Peninsula, Southwest Washington, and the I-90 Snoqualmie Corridor; however, there could be further opportunities for project work across the state.

    The ability to work independently is highly valued. Tasks include working with the Washington State Conservation Director on developing a pipeline of projects while also closing conservation deals that advance TPL’s mission and fundraising goals. The person in this role will also occasionally assist with strategic planning, collaborate with TPL’s national team, and support marketing and philanthropy. The position will be assigned to the Seattle, WA, office; however, a remote/hybrid work set-up is also an option.


    ESSENTIAL TASKS:
    • Prospects for, develops, and closes land conservation projects, including determining which land protection tools and funding sources to utilize.
    • Develops and maintains strong relationships with key local, state, and federal agencies, tribes, and non-governmental organizations, and supports TPL’s external affairs and public relations efforts.
    • Understands and pursues public funding through local, state and federal grant programs, including grant proposal preparation. 
    • Determines and implements negotiation strategies for all phases of land acquisition projects.
    • Manages all aspects leading to a successful conservation transaction. This includes contracting for and reviewing appraisals and environmental assessments, reviewing title and other legal documents, and preparing documents for internal approvals.
    • Supports fundraising efforts, strategic planning sessions, budget preparation, and mentors land protection team support staff in their work.
    • Should be comfortable with public speaking and with representing TPL to the public at outreach events.
    QUALIFICATIONS
    • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent work experience.
    • 5-8 years of conservation real estate experience. Familiarity with the Washington market, land transaction tools, and funding sources are a plus.
    • Consistent high level of performance and creativity.
    • Ability to work independently and initiate, structure, negotiate, and close conservation real estate projects.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to thrive as a team player, adaptable and flexible.
    • This position requires moderate to heavy travel. Evening and weekend work on occasions.
    As a full-time exempt employee, you will be eligible for Trust for Public Land’s comprehensive benefits program which includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, vacation, ten holidays, a winter break, and a 403(b) retirement plan, currently with an up to 7% company match. The anticipated hiring range for this role is $95,000-105,000. Offers are commensurate with experience.
