Pierce County (Wisconsin) Economic Development Corporation (PCEDC) Executive Director
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Pierce County (Wisconsin) Economic Development Corporation (PCEDC) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our organization as Executive Director. This role requires a strong understanding of economic development principles, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance the overall economic prosperity of Pierce County, Wisconsin. The Executive Director reports to the PCEDC Board of Directors and executes the organization’s program of work as it relates to economic development for Pierce County, Wisconsin under the supervision of the Board Executive Committee.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE…
- Will have increased organizational revenue through private and/or public investor funding.
- Will have successfully implemented strategies to promote economic growth.
- Will provide evidence of past Business Retention & Expansion (BR&E) and new business attraction efforts. Maintain CRM database of PCEDC contacts.
- Will provide writing samples published in local media and share their experience in working with local media and serving as the public face of an organization.
- Will share examples of a time when they garnered consensus among a variety of stakeholders with diverging views.
- Will have successfully led and managed employees as well as volunteers.
- Will discuss how they have had to collaborate with local government officials, community organizations, and other stakeholders to create a supportive business environment and remove barriers to economic growth.
- Will summarize their knowledge of how to market a community for economic development and job creation purposes.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement a comprehensive economic development strategy to attract new businesses, retain existing businesses, and stimulate job creation within Pierce County, Wisconsin.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for business expansion, relocation, and investment by conducting market research, analyzing industry trends, and maintaining a network of contacts.
- Collaborate with local government officials, community organizations, and other stakeholders to create a supportive business environment and remove barriers to economic growth. Crucial stakeholders include Pierce County Board, Pierce County Industrial Development Committee (IDC), Chambers of Commerce of Ellsworth, River Falls, and Prescott, Regional Planning Committee, Regional Business Fund, River Falls City Development, Momentum West, Wisconsin EDC.
- Serve as a liaison between the organization and potential members/clients, providing information, resources, and assistance to facilitate business development and expansion.
- Develop and manage economic development programs, incentives, and grants to support business growth and entrepreneurship.
- Coordinate with workforce development agencies and educational institutions to align training programs with the needs of local businesses and industries.
- Promote the community as an attractive destination for businesses and members through marketing campaigns, trade shows, and other promotional activities.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of economic development initiatives, tracking key performance indicators and making recommendations for improvement.
- Stay informed about economic trends, legislative changes, and industry developments that may impact the local economy, and provide regular updates to stakeholders.
- Responsible for continual recruitment of new members and retention of existing members.
- Other duties as identified by the PCEDC’s Board of Directors.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, urban planning, or a related field, is preferred, plus five (5) or more years’ experience in economic development, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates who have completed or are working toward their Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation will receive preference.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Proven experience in business development, economic development, business attraction, and job creation, preferably in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of economic development principles, strategies, and best practices.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives.
- Proficiency in using data analysis tools and software to evaluate economic trends and make informed decisions.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal economic development programs, incentives, and regulations.
- Ability to manage multiple budgets, projects, and priorities simultaneously, while meeting deadlines and achieving desired outcomes.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a diverse workforce.
