     Immediate Supervisor: VP of Economic Development and Operations

    Status: Full-time, Salary (M – F | 7:30a – 4:30p)

     This role is expected to maintain the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality in all aspects of business for BEDC and the Research Park at SDSU. Greet all guests and clients with a warm welcome and treat them with respect.

    This role is employed by the BEDC and will serve both BEDC and the Research Park. The employee will be responsible for tracking time spent on work for individual organizations. This role will work closely with all team members and CEOs and will be crossed-trained in multiple areas as opportunities allow and will primarily focus on marketing, communications, and admin-related tasks that support the organizational operations as well as the following Economic Development Initiatives:

    Business Attraction & Recruitment

    Supporting Existing Businesses

    Supporting Innovation and Entrepreneurship

    Collaborating with Economic Development Leadership

    Business Attraction & Recruitment, marketing the community to drive businesses to the area to help grow Brookings and the surrounding region.

    • Develop and execute marketing strategies to attract new businesses to our region.
    • Create tailored marketing campaigns to attract investment to targeted industries.
    • Collaborate with local stakeholders, economic development agencies, and industry partners to showcase the advantages of locating businesses in our area.
    • Utilize digital marketing, events, and other channels to promote the region as an ideal destination for business investment.

    Supporting Existing Businesses, promoting business resources for continued economic vitality, growth, and sustainability.

    • Develop communication strategies to support the growth and retention of existing businesses.
    • Provide marketing support and resources to help established businesses expand and thrive.
    • Work with Business Development Specialist(s) to act as a conduit between businesses and relevant support services, helping to connect them with resources and opportunities for growth.
    • Coordinate events to recognize and celebrate the achievements of local businesses.

    Supporting Innovation and Entrepreneurship, celebrating new growth opportunities in Brookings and the surrounding region. 

    • Promote resources, programs, and initiatives aimed at supporting startups and small businesses.
    • Highlight success stories and innovative projects to inspire others and attract investment in the local innovation ecosystem.
    • Coordinate events that nurture entrepreneurial talent by elevating partnerships with incubators, accelerators, and educational institutions.

    Collaborating with Economic Development Leadership, working closely with economic development leadership to align marketing and communications efforts with broader strategic objectives.

    • Provide regular updates on marketing initiatives, successes, and challenges.
    • Collaborate on the development of marketing materials, presentations, and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
    • Contribute to the overall economic development strategy by providing insights and recommendations based on market trends and stakeholder feedback.

    Program and Project Focuses, identified tasks and activities that support the focused initiatives of the Marketing and Operations Specialist position. 

    Business Attraction & Recruitment

    • Work with team members to identify and strategically attract industries to Brookings and the surrounding region.
    • Research and develop business attraction marketing plan
    • Occasionally attend trade shows to attract businesses to the community
    • Complete Visit Brookings CTA program (when available)

    Supporting Existing Businesses

    Industry Cluster Events

    • Coordinating and promotion of cluster events

    “Relocate to Brookings”- SD Freedom Works Here campaign

    • Data management and distribution
    • Manage workforce recruitment planning

    Employer Resources

    • Promote employer resources and events
    • Complete Chamber Ambassador training

    Supporting Innovation and Entrepreneurship

    • Assist with planning and promotion of training events such as Pitch Night, Co.Starters, and Launch Founder Workshops.
    • Identify & promote success stories for the Park Press newsletter

    Collaborating with Economic Development Leadership

    • Assist with the planning and implementation of annual Economic Summit
    • Promote Ecosystem Partner events that focus on economic development
    • Facilitate planned communication and updates with Ecosystem Partners
    • Oversee all stakeholder and board member communication

    Operations. A portion of this role will assist with the management of operation priorities for BEDC and the Research Park such as,

    Execute accounting and finance processes.

    • Program management and execution for grant agreements
    • Analyzing monthly & quarterly financial reports
    • Address financial discrepancies
    • Participate in annual audit activities

    Client relationships (prospects, tenants, businesses, investors)

    • Recruit prospects to the Brookings area and/or Research Park
    • Assist tenants with space needs, lease agreements, professional contact introductions, and community resources to grow their business.
    • Program management and tracking for investor pledges and payments.

    Facility maintenance and systems management

    • Oversee the management of day-to-day operations for the Brookings Innovation Center.

    Manage board and reoccurring meeting communications and materials, including task force and committee expectations.

    • Assist with presentations, event attendance, and community awareness on current priorities and initiatives.

    Event Planning

    • Oversee the coordination and planning of events and large stakeholder meetings.

    Other duties as assigned by the VP of Economic Development & Operations.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    1. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study to include Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, Business Administration, Entrepreneurial Studies, Economics, or related field is preferred but not required.

    2. Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

    3. Ability to effectively and professionally communicate both written and verbally with executive management, elected officials, business executives, organizations, and the public.

    4. Excellent organizational and time management skills including ability to prioritize assignments, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects at one time.

    5. Ability to display creativity and innovation in attaining work objectives.

    6. Knowledge of computer software applications and systems sufficient to enter data and create basic business correspondence, documents, and presentations.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $40,000.00 - $62,000.00 per year
