The Deputy Treasurer Senior position is a full-time opportunity with benefits and a preferred hiring range of $25.63 - $28.20 per hour (equivalent to $53,310.40 - $58,656.00 annually); however, an exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidate's qualifications/experience and in compliance with City policy. The ideal candidate for this position will perform complex skilled administrative support work and oversee the day-to-day functions of the front office.
As the Deputy Treasurer Senior, you'll:
- Perform all duties of the Deputy Treasurer, including performing those duties when short-staffed and including the daily settlement sheet proofing, when needed;
- Train or assist in the training of new staff, as needed;
- Process daily tax web payments and release DMV Stops;
- Prepare mortgage company tax accounts, including receiving request lists from numerous mortgage companies, verifying and updating computer system, e-mailing payment files to mortgage companies, and posting all payments (checks and wires) manually, semi-annually;
- Research mortgage payments if there is a question or they have been misapplied;
- Process payment reversals for misapplied payments and create payment entries to reapply them correctly and notify the Finance Department;
- Serve as the contact person for Debt-Set-Off Collections, submit claim files, research claims received, notify the state of status of funds requested, notify taxpayers (in writing) regarding claim information, and create a special condition/note on each account;
- Finalize claim and post money to various accounts;
- Serve as the contact for taxpayers to provide requested information, which includes handling many phone calls and emails and serving as the External-Alternate IRMS Security Administrator;
- Perform Notary Public duties, as needed;
- Verify City of Harrisonburg and City School Board disbursement and payroll checks;
- Perform the essential daily duties of the Assistant Treasurer/Chief Deputy Treasurer in his/her absence;
- Reconcile monthly State Cardinal and CARS reports to keep a running total for annual state audit;
- Approve wire transfers for the Finance Department and the City School Board;
- Reconcile pre-paid tax account balance semi-annually;
- Attend trainings or meetings, as necessary, and serve as the departmental representative in meetings, as needed;
- Manage all Munis and Tyler Cashiering software upgrades and train staff, as necessary;
- Maintain the same security level of responsibilities for the software system as the Treasurer and Chief Deputy Treasurer;
- Perform related tasks as required.

- Moderate (1-3 years) experience in account management, cash handling and debt collection services, and problem resolution in a public service environment. Some supervisory experience preferred.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to obtain Level II certification as Master Governmental Deputy Treasurer within 36 months of hire date, or as class scheduling permits.
- Ability to participate in classes deemed appropriate for this classification, including accounting courses offered through the Treasurer’s Association of Virginia and Radford University Governmental and Nonprofit Assistance Center (to obtain the Virginia Government Accounting Certificate through the Treasurer’s Association of Virginia and Radford University Governmental and Nonprofit Assistance Center).
