The City of Kettering, OH is recruiting to fill a full-time (40 hours/week) Finance Technician II position in the City’s municipal Income Tax Division of its Finance Department. The Finance Technician II performs tasks in a fast-paced “teamwork” environment necessary to: income tax return processing; auditing; collections; oral and written correspondence with taxpayers; assisting with delinquency programs; and other projects and duties as assigned. This position reports to the Tax Manager. The Finance Technician II-Tax performs technical work and related analyses, demonstrating the ability and willingness to accept increasingly difficult and complex tasks, in a fast-paced team environment while adhering to strict legal and department deadlines. The Finance Technician II-Tax will routinely encounter situations requiring the application of judgment and decisiveness to the sensitive work of income tax collection. This position classification is in the Non-competitive Classified Civil Service and works under the general supervision of the Tax Administrator.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Finance Technician II-Tax must have a strong working knowledge of taxation and accounting methods, terminology, principles, and procedures. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to deal effectively with the general public and City staff are required. This position requires technical aptitude of the principles relating to taxation along with the ability to apply this knowledge to work products. The employee must be highly skilled in the use of computers and related software programs. The Finance Technician II-Tax is an integral member of the Finance team and must be a self-starter, requiring minimal supervision to complete assigned tasks. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related degree with a record of directly related experience is required. Some experience in accounting and/or tax or any equivalent combination of experience and training which demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform increasingly complex accounting work in the governmental environment is preferred.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
The pay range for this position is from $29.07 to $37.21 per hour ($60,466 - $77,397 per year), with the entry rate contingent upon experience, training and abilities; excellent benefits.
