    Job Description and Duties

    The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is seeking a conscientious applicant who can improve collaboration and execute IT service delivery to various programs that support the CDCR mission. As an Information Technology Specialist I (ITS I) for Customer Service & Field Operations (CSFO), you will become an integral part of the IT team for the State Wide Information Field Team (SWIFT) Southern Region. The SWIFT teams provide a broad spectrum of support services to its customer base of over 3,000 users; located in over 180 locations throughout California.

    Under direction of the Information Technology Supervisor II, the ITS I will independently perform functions within the CDCR SWIFT Southern Region, providing service for the Division of Adult Parole Operations (DAPO), Office of Peace Officer Selection (OPOS), Accounting Services Branch (ASB), Fire Camps, and other smaller branches of CDCR. The ITS I will provide 1st and 2nd level desktop support which includes planning for, installing, relocating, modifying, troubleshooting, tracking inventory, surveying (decommissioning) old IT equipment, and supporting all data processing equipment within a service area. The incumbent will take the lead on projects, prepare work plans, write reports, and make presentations. The selected candidate will work independently, with minimal supervision, in a peripatetic environment, rich in mobile technologies, including laptops and smart phones, with a diverse customer base. We are looking for a candidate with a diverse background that includes multi-level desktop support experience, strong hardware and software troubleshooting abilities, excellent customer service skills, and project management experience.

    Most positions at CDCR Enterprise Information Services are eligible for telework. This position requires local in-person duties to be performed although some telework may be available.


    Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

    The California Department of Corrections Rehabilitation (CDCR) Headquarters has implemented a new automated system to streamline the hiring process. The Human Resources Technology System (HRTS) is an intuitive, user-friendly system that provides the applicant access to real-time updates throughout the hiring process. HRTS will require new candidates to set up an account, which allows them to track their application's progress. Through their account portal, candidates will also be able to provide any additional information needed in the hiring process, including setting up interviews as needed.     Working Conditions

    SWIFT team positions are strategically placed in locations throughout California with consideration given to accessibility to supported sites, overall workload within a territory, and ability to provide cross-coverage to neighboring territories. The ITS I position requires frequent travel to field offices, and occasional after hours support due to operational need. This position is based out of the Parole Case Records office, located in Rancho Cucamonga, California.
