    Qualifications

    • Master’s degree in Business, Information Technology, or related field.
    • Three to five (3-5) years of higher education experience preferred.
    • Supervisory or administration experience preferred.
    • Strong personal initiative and leadership skills.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    Deans are generally responsible for instructional leadership and faculty supervision within their respective divisions. Deans should be positive role models, embody team values, and promote high morale among faculty, while remaining loyal to BPCC and its goals.

    Examples of Work

    • Supervise division staff at the main campus and supervise faculty at the main campus and faculty teaching division courses at off-campus instructional sites in Natchitoches and Sabine Valley.
    • Promote a positive work environment that encourages teamwork and excellence in performance.
    • Work with division faculty and staff to plan, identify division outcomes, and monitor achievement of outcomes that support the planning and evaluation of the College’s long-range goals and objectives.
    • Prepare an annual budget, with faculty input, to be submitted to the Provost/Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness.
    • Work with division faculty and staff to identify opportunities to see external funding for division operations.
    • Hold regular division meetings to discuss information pertinent to the faculty and staff and allow for their input on relevant decisions.
    • Lead the division faculty and staff in efforts to promote student enrollment, retention, and completion of programs.
    • Keep communication open and maintain a flow of information with all full-time and adjunct faculty, being accessible to answer questions and being accountable for accurate and timely dissemination of information.
    • Encourage staff and faculty professional development by informing the division of conferences, seminars, and workshops available. Review requests from faculty to attend conferences, seminars, and workshops and forward the requests to the Provost/Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness for approval.
    • Act as a resource person for all faculty members assigned to the division.
    • Participate actively in the interviewing, selection, and hiring processes for all staff and faculty appointments within the division. Complete Credentialing Verification Form for all new faculty hires. Recruit adjunct instructors for hiring and facilitate the onboarding process, including disseminating relevant course materials for course preparation.
    • Serve on the Dean’s Council as an active participant and keep the Provost/Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness informed of short-range planning and evaluation of on-going activities within the division.
    • Conduct annual performance evaluations and reviews of personnel in the division as required, and encourage professional development and developing performance improvement plans, when appropriate. Annual performance evaluations include observing and evaluating all division faculty, both full-time and adjunct, at both the main campus and at off-campus instructional sites, during the academic year.
    • Review all student evaluations of the faculty each semester and discuss results with faculty to identify strengths as well as any areas for improvement.
    • Monitor student enrollment and retention within classes in the division, utilizing retention reports and other data, and discuss results with faculty to identify strengths as well as any areas for improvement.
    • Supervise registration events within the division for fall, winter, spring, Maymester, and summer semesters. Monitor class size limits throughout registration and add or cancel classes as necessary. Provide updates regarding faculty advisor assignments to the Office of Academic Affairs.
    • Gather student learning outcomes data each semester for division courses and discuss results with program directors and faculty annually to identify strengths and to address any areas of improvement.
    • Work with program directors to monitor institutional effectiveness of programs within the division by coordinating program reviews, analyzing results of the reviews, and establishing goals for program improvement.
    • Identify scheduling needs through available tools such as AdAstra and DegreeWorks and prepare and coordinate class schedules during fall, winter, spring, Maymester, and summer semesters, both on the main campus and off-campus instructional sites. This includes offering a variety of classes to meet student needs and determining faculty instructional assignments consistent with their expertise and academic preparation.
    • Annually review programmatic curriculum with program directors in the division and provide updated curriculum information to advisors and for implementation in the College Catalog.
    • Verify applications for graduation within the division each semester and forward approved applications to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs or his/her designee by the established deadline.
    • Coordinate ordering of textbooks and necessary instructional materials with division faculty and the campus bookstore for all classes in the division.
    • Regularly assess technological needs for faculty in delivering instruction and for students enrolled in division courses and programs and find solutions to meet those needs.
    • Participate in the selection of library materials, visual aids, and information software to support the division’s academic goals. Advocate faculty and student use of the library resources. Forward all requests for the division to the Dean of Learning Resources.
    • Ensure that a master syllabus is on file for each course listed in the catalog within the division by reviewing annually, consulting with division faculty to determine needed modifications, and distributing for registration and publication.
    • Supervise the preparation and revision of course descriptions and other catalog information for division course offerings and programs and conduct an annual review of the College Catalog.
    • Collaborate with area universities and community colleges concerning programs, curricula changes, and negotiations for transferability of courses. Promote opportunities for articulation agreements with other institutions.
    • Assess regional, State, and national job market trends regularly to determine opportunities for program additions within the division.
    • Facilitate submission of new course and program proposals for review and approval by the College’s Curriculum Committee, the LCTCS Board of Supervisors, and the Louisiana Board of Regents.
    • Review transferability of credit earned at other Louisiana colleges or out-of-state institutions toward the completion of associate degree or certificate requirements at BPCC.
    • Annually review and update credentialing criteria for division courses in the BPCC Faculty Credentialing Matrix.
    • Represent the division at various activities, such as, but not limited to, various recruitment activities, academic endeavors, and events.
    • Prepare reports for the division upon request of the Provost/Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness.
    • Receive student complaints about faculty members and take any necessary actions.
    • Cooperate with the Division of Learning Resources to provide student opportunities for enrichment and remediation in subjects taught in the division.
    • Accept telephone calls and respond to correspondence about the courses or degree plans within the division.
    • Manage the ordering of items approved in the budget and track expenditures in the division.
    • Manage and report time keeping for all faculty and staff within the division.
    • Manage operation of any division labs, including, but not limited to, scheduling staffing, maintaining computer services equipment and supplies, and monitoring services to meet student needs.
    • Serve as an Ex-Officio member of a College Committee and as a member of an ad-hoc committee, upon request.
