    Summary

    The City of Charlotte’s Human Resources Department is seeking a highly experienced Compensation and Classification Division Manager. This role will report to a member of the Human Resources Department Executive Director team and will manage the compensation staff.  Under the direction of the Human Resources Department Director, provide oversight of the Compensation and Classification Division and partner with the Strategy & Budget office to derive a competitive compensation strategy, development and maintenance of multiple pay plan structures that facilitates the deployment of the City of Charlotte’s compensation philosophy, strategy, and program implementation.  The ideal candidate is one who has compensation leadership/management experience, demonstrated advanced level Excel skills, analytical skills, and the ability to engage department leaders to and understand the needs of our various departments. The ideal candidate will also have a demonstrated reputation of strong problem resolution skills, strategic thinking, the ability to work under tight deadlines, be highly responsive, and customer centric, with strong interpersonal communication skills utilizing an array of communication tools. 

    Major Duties and Responsibilities

    The successful candidate is expected to perform a variety of duties. Examples include but are not limited to: Plan, design and administer compensation pay plans and programs, as approved by the Human Resource Department Director. Make recommendations to Human Resources executive leadership team regarding new compensation policies and procedures. Create and administer pay guidelines and pay plans, as approved by the Human Resources Department Director. Prepare presentations, reports, memorandums, as necessary to communicate, train and educate HR Managers and city department leaders regarding classification and compensation initiatives. Continue to evaluate changing needs of the workforce and create career paths by creating jobs and job series. Research total rewards trends and share industry leading best practices.  Partner with the Human Capital Management Systems’ work team to ensure that the compensation plans are properly integrated in the business workflow.  Partner with the Strategy & Budget office to determine the cost/value of changes to pay plans. Oversees conducting of surveys of benchmark pay and compensation practices of other municipalities. Establish and maintain market rates in the City of Charlotte’s selected compensation software application.  Manages and develops the compensation team.   Identifies creative approaches to resolving compensation challenges within departments and across the organization

    Minimum Qualifications

    Master's Degree and three years related work experience or, Bachelor's Degree and five years related work experience or Associate's Degree with at least seven years direct and strongly demonstrated successful and related work experience, or High School Graduate or Equivalent and at least nine years of direct and strongly demonstrated successful related work experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including look up tables and pivot tables.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination.
