Purpose
This position provides vital oversight of the financial functions of the Stephen Center through the administration of all accounting and financial reporting activities, and through the direct oversight and supervision of the Staff Accountant. This position must assure the accuracy, timeliness, and meaningfulness of all accounting and financial information which is used for management decision-making. This position reports to, and works closely with the Chief Financial Officer to identify and satisfy all accounting, financial, and managerial reporting requirements.
Responsibilities
· Maintain all necessary subsidiary records and the general ledger system. Review and post all journal entries to support monthly financial reporting. Consolidate financial records for purposes of financial statement presentation. The organization’s general ledger is maintained on Oracle’s NetSuite software.
· Reconcile daily Cash Receipts recorded with cash deposited. Review and assure accuracy of account distribution of cash receipts.
· Administer the Accounts Payable function, by providing oversight of the payment of all organizational bills on a timely basis, including all payroll and related taxes, and employee health insurance expenses.
· Administer the Cash Management function. Reconcile bank accounts on a monthly basis. Follow Board-established guidelines for preparing account transfers for Chief Financial Officer’s approval to optimize return on investments.
· Prepare Annual 1099 reporting for vendors that meet the reporting requirements.
· Prepare monthly financial statements and managerial reports that compare current operating results to the approved annual Budget and to the prior year results. Work with the Chief Financial Officer to adapt the format of these reports as needed.
· Work with the external auditors by providing all information that is requested in conjunction with the annual financial audit, as well as for the preparation of the annual Form 990.
· Support the Annual Budgeting process. Provide appropriate summaries and analyses of historical costs which can be used as a basis for the next year’s Budget. Based on input from the Chief Financial Officer, the CEO, and from Operational leaders, generate meaningful budgetary reports.
· Assure that Generally Accepted Accounting Principles are followed. Work with the auditors, the Chief Financial Officer, and the CEO as needed to implement any changes required to implement new accounting procedures or policies.
· Maintain appropriate documentation and files for all financial transactions and reports.
· Support ad hoc requests for information and analyses. Support other related activities as needed. Develop recommendations for improvements to reporting, work flow, or any other aspects related to this position.
Requirements
This position requires an individual who is self-directed and self-motivated. Accuracy and timeliness are required, along with strong analytical abilities. A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required, public accounting experience along with the CPA designation is highly preferred, and relevant not-for-profit accounting experience is highly desired. The ability to work with others in a team setting is a must.
