    The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement (OVCIA) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign seeks a full-time Associate Director/Director of Data Management, Visualization & Analysis to join the Performance Management team. The role will focus on analyzing, reporting, and visualizing advancement data for our flagship campus advancement operation. The position will also work collaboratively with campus partners and the University of Illinois Foundation (UIF) to harvest and steward key datasets.

    Organizational Relationship

    Reporting to the Senior Director of Performance Management Operations, the Associate Director/Director of Data Management, Visualization & Analysis will play a critical role in improving advancement productivity by analyzing, reporting and visualizing advancement data across functions of the advancement operation, with particular focus on frontline fundraising drivers and outcomes.


    The ideal candidate should possess a high degree of independence and self-motivation. Leading with curiosity and taking a collaborative approach is a must as the position will partner with colleagues in the Office of Performance Management, at the University of Illinois Foundation and across advancement units.

    Job Summary
    Analyzing, reporting, and visualizing advancement data for our flagship campus advancement operation. Works collaboratively with campus partners and the University of Illinois Foundation (UIF) to harvest and steward key datasets.

    Duties & Responsibilities for the Associate Director

    Data Visualization and Analysis

    • Mine and analyze data from advancement and university data sources to drive optimization and improvement of development activities and business strategies.
    • Develop visualizations to aid Performance Management initiatives, support leadership decision-making and drive operational decision-making.
    • Deliver statistical trend analysis, including performance, forecasting and projection reports.
    • Design visualizations that can be used to communicate data and findings to non-technical audiences with the goal of improving business decisions and actions.

      Data Harvest and Management

    • In partnership with the Senior Director, evaluate existing advancement and alumni/prospect data and implement changes that improve data quality for use in analysis, forecasting, and advancement business decisions with strong emphasis on pipeline data.
    • Collaborate with advancement staff and academic partners to identify existing datasets with an advancement business purpose that are not yet captured in the alumni database.
    • Work in partnership with the University of Illinois Foundation on data integration while adhering to appropriate data integrity, privacy, and ethics standards.

      Team Participation and Professional Development

      • In partnership with the Senior Director, cultivate strong relationships across Illinois advancement, seeking to understand functional roles and perspectives.
      • Present information on analytics opportunities and share best practices.
      • Take direction from Senior Director to lead assigned projects, driving progress and outcomes.
      • Share expertise with internal and external colleagues; Stay current with industry trends.

    Qualifications for the Associate Director


    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or a field related to the position. Three (3) years of professional business, financial, and/or managerial work experience in data analysis. Demonstrated experience with data visualization software such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar tools. Demonstrated experience translating business needs into technical solutions, and experience in graphic/infographic design or data storytelling.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Experience in higher education advancement or related field.
    Working knowledge of SQL, Python, Banner or demonstrated aptitude for learning coding languages.
    Familiarity with TED, the alumni database used at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the enterprise data warehouse used on the Urbana campus.

    • Demonstrated success in building internal relationships and partnering to achieve outcomes.
    • Demonstrated Intermediate to Advanced skills in the Microsoft Office products Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word.

    • Superior oral, written and presentation communication skills.

    • Be fully integrated into Performance Management, with the ability to recommend ways your skillset can contribute to overall departmental efforts to improve advancement performance.

      Appointment Information
      This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5010 - Business/Administrative Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after close date. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. Salary range for the Associate Director title starts at $75,000 and the Director title starts at $85,000.
