SALARY COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE.
With guidance, reviews account histories for delinquencies and delinquent reports daily to identify accounts that require collection notifications. Reviews history of accounts through computer system and storage records and prepares payment history records for review.
Assists with all returned checks, share drafts and negative balances. Identifies potential causes of negative balances i.e. returned checks, courtesy pay or insufficient fund fees.
Performs payment transactions and/or reverse payment errors. Performs charge offs as directed.
Contacts members through telephone or written communication to notify them of delinquent loans. Documents collection efforts, including discussions, responses and payment arrangements. Responsible for assigned accounts and responds timely to member inquiries. Refers difficult cases to senior staff.
As directed, performs followup contact with members requiring reminders or have not responded to initial contacts.
May interview members to make credit/payment plans. Exercises discretion and judgment in making firm financial arrangements.
Responsible for the preparation, filing and member notification for claims under Loan Protection Insurance Programs. Files disability and additional credit life insurance elected by members. Files bond loss claims for bad checks and fraud claims for credit cards. Responsible for contacting vendor on all accidental death claims on deceased members.
Refers delinquent accounts to collection agency, attorney or repossession as directed by senior staff.
Develops and maintains knowledge of policies and procedures, including team-based department requirements. Develops knowledge and experience with products and services and regulatory requirements. Keeps current with service updates and training, both requested and assigned. Provides instruction and operational information on routine tasks, basic functions, policies & procedures to trainees and new staff.
Provides administrative support to department, including but not limited to, answering phones, retrieving and opening mail, typing, data entry, preparing documents, faxing, photocopying and filing. Ensures integrity and organization of records. Must demonstrate commitment to member service, dependability and respect for other employees with regular attendance, punctuality and adherence to agreed-upon schedule of availability.
Performs all other miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Physical Demands: Sitting/standing for continuous periods up to four (4) hours . Use of vision, hearing, speech, and working with hands. Some stooping, kneeling and lifting (25-30 lbs.) and carrying.
Working Condition: Air-conditioned office. Requires use of a personal computer and other standard office equipment (typewriter, fax, copier, calculator, telephone and postage meter).
Education:
High school diploma, GED, or similar approved diploma program i.e. CBCDSP and one (1) year progressive experience in financial services or comparable industry, OR one (1) year post-secondary college from an accredited educational institution.
Experience:
One (1) year progressive experience in accounting, financial services or comparable industry, including preferred collections experience. Developing knowledge of banking products, services and operations. Knowledge of financial institution regulations such as anti-money laundering, Bank Secrecy Act and applicable laws and regulatory requirements preferred.
Technical:
Moderate ability to use personal computers, including Microsoft Office software, including, Outlook, Internet Explorer, Word and Excel. Ability to develop usage of credit union systems. Basic mathematical accuracy, use of calculator by touch and light typing.
Other:
Developing moderate ability to identify and problems, and manage tasks accurately and efficiently. Attention to detail and organization to prioritize and meet deadlines efficiently. Good communication skills, including verbal, written and listening, to all levels of staff and vendors, with tact and diplomacy. Developing strong customer service and team skills. Demonstrated dependability and punctuality. Performs under moderate supervision.
