    DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

    Overseeing compensation policy and program design, tools and systems, working closely with compensation and human resource professionals at the ten campuses and five medical centers

    Position Summary

    Technical leader who provides guidance to all levels within the organization in relation to compensation, policy, and reporting requirements and programs for Senior Management Group (SMG) members and certain Management and Senior Personnel (MSP) members. Expertise deployed to resolve complex issues through collaboration with key contacts and leadership at Office of the President and across UC locations. This position operates with minimal direct supervision related to day-to-day responsibilities. Provides guidance to UCOP and other UC location colleagues and stakeholders. This position is eligible for the remote work arrangement within the state of California. The selected candidate must reside within California or be willing to relocate.

    Key Responsibilities

    30% Analysis of requests and preparation of compensation-related documents recommending actions for Presidential or Regental approval in relation to organizational policies, standing orders, and bylaws. Advising and providing guidance to the Senior Management Group coordinators and stakeholders in relation to appointments to SMG roles, MSP roles over ICL limit, salary adjustments, inclusion in incentive plans, and reporting to the Regents as required by policy.

    25% Applies advanced compensation concepts to analyze and develop the organization's compensation programs, including management of salaries, recognition programs, cash and non-cash bonus plans and other forms of total rewards, including assessment of competitive market trends affecting the structure and administration of non-sales incentive plans and executive compensation requests for conformance to established guidelines, policies and practices.

    20% Utilizes compensation surveys to collect and analyze competitive salary information to determine organization's competitive position; key project team member working with outside consultants, as required, to review/refresh Market Reference Zones. Leads special studies and designs programs on subjects such as incentive compensation, bonus plans, and other forms of compensation. Serves as a project team member and may assume project management responsibilities.

    10% Preparation of policy-driven compensation reports for presentation to and approval of the President and Board of Regents.

    5% Assessment of competitive market trends affecting the structure and administration of non-sales incentive plans and review of executive compensation requests for conformance to established guidelines, policies and practices.

    5% Recommends corrective or alternative actions to resolve highly complex compensation-related problems with impact across multiple departments or the organization.

    5% Reviews requests for new or revised jobs to determine appropriate assignment of Market Reference Zones for each SMG position.

    Advanced knowledge to develop and implement compensation programs for the organization and understands how they and other initiatives may impact various areas of human resources.

    Advanced analytical skills to conduct diverse analysis; develop and present findings and recommendations; and highly effective written and verbal communication skills in order to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.

    Demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with diverse client groups, other areas of human resources, and members of the organization's management.

    Advanced interpersonal skills to interact with client groups and other areas of human resources as well as to understand and present how compensation can address and support business needs and objectives.

    Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing work assignments and meet deadlines.

    Demonstrated highly effective written and verbal communication skills in order to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Advanced knowledge of other areas of human resources and advanced business systems knowledge at this level.

    Demonstrated ability to lead, influence and manage projects at this level.

    The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
