PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Community Support Counselor (CSC) is responsible for administering and delivering mental health services, case management, and linkage to community resources to formerly homeless individuals with a mental health diagnosis residing in permanent supportive housing. The CSC is expected to engage with the head(s) of household while addressing issues impacting the entire family. The CSC acts as a liaison between landlord/property management and the consumer. The CSC is tasked with educating consumers on housing services, life skills, and communication to aid in building independence. This position provides mental health services through developing coping strategies, harm reduction techniques, and referrals to local mental health providers and primary care physicians while monitoring progress through various clinical assessments and tools. Applicants are encouraged to possess time management, organization, and conflict resolution skills.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
- Current and valid driver’s license.
- Maintaining continuing education requirements specific to field and position.
- Must have the following:

- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of various clinical criteria related to issues confronting our consumers (i.e. mental health, substance abuse, housing)
- Knowledge of local service provider network (i.e. substance abuse treatment, mental health services, employment readiness services)
- Use Rules of Professional Ethics, Regulations and Confidentiality and apply to daily work situations.
- Basic knowledge of Windows office systems such as Word, Excel and Outlook
WORK CONDITIONS
- The CSC has a designated office but is expected to spend majority of day in the community serving consumers.
- Expect to interact with staff and consumers to provide activities related to work such as conducting meetings as well as workshops
- May require prolonged sitting or standing.
