Executive Writer (Federal Communications)

  • DCG is seeking an experienced Executive Writer to provide direct support to the Assistant Secretary for Information and Technology and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). The ideal candidate will have notable experience in speechwriting, blog writing, and crafting compelling presentation messages at a skill level commensurate with the demands of the position.

    DCG aims to support the VA Office of Information and Technology (OIT) in its mission to enhance strategic communication efforts, focusing on delivering impactful communication products, services, and activities that reflect VA's vision for an exceptional digital experience for Veterans and their families. OIT requires sophisticated, strategic communication expertise, particularly in complex IT system development and delivery, to provide comprehensive communication support to various stakeholders of VA's large-scale IT services.

    Location: At DCG the majority of our team members, including this role, are remote. With over 100 employees based in 28 states (and counting!), DCG is committed to hiring talented employees across the United States. The selected candidate will work during DCG’s core Eastern Standard Time business hours. 

    Responsibilities:

    • Create articles, blogs, op-eds, and speeches that reflect the personal style and position of the Assistant Secretary for Information and Technology and CIO as thought leaders in the federal government's IT sector.
    • Provide senior-level communication expertise to rapidly assess OIT leadership needs and coordinate with relevant stakeholders to produce high-quality work within extremely short timelines, while effectively balancing multiple priorities.
    • Develop presentations, talking points, speeches, and email messages tailored to various audiences, including OIT or VA employees, as well as external stakeholders.
    • Fulfill ad hoc requests for collateral materials that effectively communicate OIT's strategic initiatives and the CIO's leadership intent.


    Position Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism, or a related field.
    • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in executive-level writing or communication roles.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
    • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with senior leaders and stakeholders across various departments.
    • Demonstrable experience in speechwriting, blog writing, and crafting presentation messaging at an executive level.
    • Ability to provide examples of relevant work to the government before selection to ensure alignment with the executive's writing style.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance

    Preferred Skills:

    • Familiarity with key functions and offices at the VA.
    • Knowledge of subject matter related to new digital tools for technology organizations, such as APIs, AI, machine learning, and telemedicine.
