    Position Summary

    Are you ready to inspire the next generation of Systems Administration professionals? The Science, Computing and Engineering Pathway at Portland Community College is actively seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Computer Information Systems/Systems Administration Instructor to join our dedicated faculty, starting in the Fall of 2024. As a pivotal member of our team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of aspiring IT professionals through your expertise and passion for Systems Administration.

    This instructor will prepare PCC's students for jobs at the cutting edge of technology through: the development of our CIS program, curriculum development, course instruction, and partnerships with local industry for internships and advisory boards, as well as other tasks as assigned. The position represents an outstanding opportunity to bring your expertise to lead and grow this vital academic program and to work closely with and mentor students. The work will draw on your ability to teach students about OS installation, configuration, and monitoring, and to adapt and thrive in a dynamic environment.

    Candidate Profile

    These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position.
    Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications.

    In your cover letter, please provide a brief description of  how you meet the minimum qualifications and the following five success criteria so that we can get to know you and what you can bring to Portland Community College. We are seeking a candidate who:

    • Has a passion for and/or recent experience with college-level teaching or adult training and strives for teaching excellence.
    • Has experience administering large networks of computers in an industrial setting, using Linux or Windows.
    • Is capable of fulfilling the demands of a conventional work schedule (8am-5pm, M-F), face to face, on campus, in Portland, OR
    • Has experience with a broad range of IT topics and the willingness to teach and improve our curriculum across the courses the CIS department offers.
    • Is able to demonstrate the positive impact of strong intercultural, interpersonal, and communications skills (written, oral and presentation) in a highly diverse environment, adapting practices to include a wide range of cultural knowledge, experiences, and perspectives, especially from historically untapped communities.
    • Has the ability to respond to cultural shifts and changing community support needs to help improve our Computer Information Systems program through curriculum development and pedagogical innovation

    Minimum Qualifications

    To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) or STEM-related bachelor’s degree AND
    • Experience: 4 years full-time equivalent non-teaching industry experience in the field.

    OR

    • Education: Associate’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) or STEM-related bachelor’s degree AND
    • Experience: 8 years full-time equivalent non-teaching industry experience in the field.
    Related Instruction

    CIS 120, 121 and 122 include embedded Related Instruction in Computation. In order to teach these courses, instructor must have completed college-level algebra or higher Math.

     

    Starting Salary Expectations Initial Salary Placement will be between Step 1 ($64,562) and Step 3 ($68,491) based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement.

    PCC offers a comprehensive benefit package designed to provide employees and their families, including domestic partners, with access to a broad range of benefit options. Includes Health, Dental, and Vision options, Group Life, Long-term Disability, Long-term Care, and Auto and Home Insurance programs.

    PCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP.  A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049.  PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.

    Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at PCC for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions. 

    * Please note: Temporary Full-Time Faculty are not eligible for Personal Leave Days, Life Insurance, Long-term Disability, or AD&D Insurance.

    Paid Leave:

    • 1 day of sick leave for every 18 days worked (~10 per year)
    • 21 hours of additional personal leave per year
    • 4 paid holidays (which occur during the term you are teaching)
