    Job Description

    Under the general direction of the President and CEO, the Branch Director provides administrative leadership for the branch by providing direction to the accomplishment of branch goals and objectives for Fiscal Management, Board/Volunteer Development, Human Resources Management, Financial Development, Program Development, Member/Participant Satisfaction, Facility Management, Public Relations, Planning and Administration. All functions are performed in accordance with Central Coast YMCA policies and bylaws.

    Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience :

    · Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in management is strongly recommended, or equivalent from a four-year college or technical school; five-years related experience and/or training in management, fundraising, work with policy-making volunteers, fiscal management and administration; or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the desirable knowledge, skills and abilities.

    · Outstanding human relations skills are essential for this position, as is a clear understanding of the principle that the YMCA is a partnership of volunteers and staff working together to achieve mutually agreed upon goals.

    · Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate.

    Language Skills : Must have:

    · Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

    · Ability to draft reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals using commonly accepted business writing techniques and appropriate grammar.

    · Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, coworkers, volunteers, members, donors, and the general public.

    Mathematical Skills :

    · Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts.

    Reasoning Ability :

    · Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

    · Must possess the ability to make sound independent decisions when circumstances warrant.

    Other Skills, Requirements, Abilities and Personal Characteristics : must have or be:

    · Ability and willingness to work as a team.

    · Well organized and possess excellent telephone communication skills.

    · Working knowledge of efficient filing systems, office machines and equipment.

    · Experience of advanced features of computer applications, including w ord-processing, relational databases, spreadsheets, graphics, and extensive knowledge of the Internet. Experience in the following computer programs: Word, WordPerfect, Excel, Q & A, PowerPoint, Page Maker, Publisher, Outlook, and Access.

    · Able to set and meet deadlines.

    · Enthusiastic, dependable and has a sense of humor.

    · Willing to follow directions and take initiative.

    · Understanding of the YMCA mission.

    · Willingness to demonstrate the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in interactions with staff and volunteers.

    · Interest in and ability to interact with children and have a positive impact upon them.

    · Even-tempered and able to adjust tasks in accordance with changing priorities.

    · Possess current CPR and First Aid Certification.

    · A neat, clean appearance. Other than the conservative use of earrings, visible body piercings are unacceptable. Visible pierced tongues are not allowed.

    Essential Functions

    I. FISCAL MANAGEMENT

    • Working closely with the President and CEO:

    · Assists in the development of the YMCA branch budget.

    · Develops and conducts systems to monitor the achievement of budgeted goals and objectives, involving all key staff members.

    · Meets budgeted outcomes for the entire branch budget.

    II. BOARD AND VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT
    • Assists the President and CEO:

    · Assists the President and CEO in the identification, enlistment, and orientation of new board members of the branch.

    · Assists the President and CEO with the Board of Managers, Campaign Committees, Board Development Committee and other Ad Hoc Committees or Task Forces.

    · Manages the development of volunteer leadership at the branch through the continual improvement in the branch Board of Managers and program volunteer staff.

    III. HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT

    · Manages the Human Resources Cycle (Selection, Recruitment, Orientation, Training, Supervision and Recognition) for all directly supervised staff.

    · Working through branch management staff, manages the Human Resources cycle for all branch staff.

    · Conducts regular 1-to-1 supervisory meetings with all staff supervised, setting and monitoring accomplishment of staff performance standards.

    IV. FINANCIAL DEVELOPMENT
    • Working closely with the President and CEO:

    · Directs the YMCA Annual Campaign.

    · Manages the Human Resources Cycle for the Campaign Chair.

    · Meets established goals for volunteer recruitment and fundraising.

    V. PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT

    · Manages the achievement of YMCA goals and objectives in programs of the YMCA.

    · Manages the development of innovative programs and upgrading of existing programs, collaborating with other agencies and organizations as necessary and appropriate to bring about maximum YMCA effectiveness in the community.

    · Ensures that reports on program quality and quantity are given to the YMCA Board of Managers on a regular basis.

    VI. MEMBER/PARTICIPANT SATISFACTION

    · Ensures that YMCA members, program participants and guests have a prominent level of satisfaction with their Y programs and services.

    · Manages the completion of member/program evaluations to measure satisfaction.

    VII. FACILITY MANAGEMENT

    · Operates the YMCA facility in a clean, safe manner, working through other staff and volunteers.

    · Manages Y facilities to best meet YMCA program needs.

    VIII. PUBLIC/COMMUNITY RELATIONS

    · Represents the YMCA in the community; interprets YMCA goals and programs to community leaders, public and military officials, the media, etc.

    · Manages the development and conducting of branch marketing and PR plans.

    IX. PLANNING

    · Gives direction to branch strategic (long range – 5 year) and tactical (1 year) planning efforts.

    · Manages the achievement of branch goals and objectives for all areas of the branch operation.

    X. ADMINISTRATION

    · Ensures that administrative systems are adequate to meet Association standards and gives proper reporting for effective management of the YMCA.

    XI. INTANGIBLES

    · Serves as an active member of the Central Coast YMCA and branch staff teams; attends and gives leadership to branch and Association staff meetings as appropriate.

    · Develops and follows a plan for professional development, collaborating with their supervisor.

    · Participates in regional and national YMCA activities as appropriate.

    EFFECT ON END RESULTS

    The Branch Director position has a primary impact on the effectiveness with which the branch accomplishes its mission in the community.

    · Volunteers, staff, members, and program participants at the YMCA will understand the purpose of the YMCA and will feel satisfied about the impact of the Y in their lives.

    · The branch will evidence purposeful programs, sound financial practices and good property management.

    · Leadership and vision will result in an asset-rich YMCA.

    · The branch Board of Managers will increase in size and commitment to the YMCA.

    · Sound fundraising techniques will result in increased contributed revenue and goodwill among donors.

    · The YMCA image will improve throughout its service area.

    · All aspects of the branch operation will reflect the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

    Required Certifications

    Team Leader certification to be achieved within two years.
