Job Summary:
Performs duties related to designing, building, and maintaining machine fixtures used in various production departments and on various production equipment; this may include repair and/or upgrade of existing fixtures. Supports manufacturing processes and ensures quality parts are being produced.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Sets-up, operates, and adjusts manual and/or CNC equipment to build and maintain tools and fixtures.
- Manages inventory of raw materials to support the operations of the machine shop.
- Fits and assembles parts to make, repair, or modify tools and dies, using machine tools and hand tools.
- Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.
- Inspects finished dies for completeness and defects.
- Conducts test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; adjust as necessary.
- Troubleshoots problems in the manufacturing process and provide input on solutions.
- Ensures equipment and tools are in good working order; maintains dies by performing preventive maintenance and/or repairs.
- Prepares, cleans, and maintains a safe workstation/environment by complying with procedures, rules/regulations, and safety guidelines.
- Adheres to and supports 5S 1.
- Adheres to and supports the ISO 9001:2015 standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills:
- High School or GED required; vocational school training or equivalent experience required.
- Three (3) years relevant experience.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for designing and fabricating new tools, dies, or assemblies.
- Ability to compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies, based on specifications.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill to set up and operate conventional tool room machinery.
- Must be able to use precision measuring tools, operate manual lathes, mills, grinders and drills.
- Experience in using and/or programming semi-automated or automated tools and machines.
- Excellent manual dexterity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and solve problems; for safety, performance, and productivity, must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- Experience with CAD and welding robots is required.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Physically active position requiring medium to heavy work with consistent lifting of up to 50 lbs.
- Requires pushing and pulling up to 75 lbs.; requires exerting force.
- Requires being able to stand and walk for long periods of time; 98% of the shift, including overtime, requires standing and/or walking.
- To perform the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, squat, reach to, below or above shoulder level/overhead, lift, carry, push, pull and use hands and/or fingers to handle, grasp, manipulate, grip and use tools.
- Essential duties and responsibilities are typically performed while standing or while intermittently sitting, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, twisting, bending, crouching or stooping; requires reaching, pushing, pulling, and gripping/grasping.
- Visual acuity and hand/eye coordination; requires the ability to see and hear.
- Regular exposure to noise and vibration from pneumatic tools, moving machines, fumes, and occasionally airborne dust and particles.
- Regular exposure to seasonal temperature changes in the work environment.
- Requires steel/composite safety footwear that meets ANSI standards and safety eye protection at all times.
- Hearing protection required in specified areas.
