Tool, Die, and Gauge Making Supervisor oversees skilled workers responsible for constructing, maintaining, modifying, and calibrating machine shop tools, dies, prototypes, jigs, fixtures and molds. Supervises the set up and operation of various lathes, grinders, milling, and boring machines used to produce tools. Being a Tool, Die, and Gauge Making Supervisor completes high level tool development work. Ensures jobs are completed correctly and on time. Additionally, Tool, Die, and Gauge Making Supervisor may require an associate degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members.     SUMMARY: Under minimal supervision, programs, sets up and operates CNC machinery to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develop Machining Processes
    • Use Master Cam software to develop and maintain CNC machine programs
    • Specify equipment, tools and supplies needed
    • Meet and improve quality standards
    • Increase productivity and improve performance standards
    • Reads and interprets blueprints
    • Ability to setup, program, operate and troubleshoot CNC mills without assistance
    • Must be proficient with FANUC and HAAS controls and understands, interprets and edits FANUC G-code & M Modes programming
    • Recognizes, deploys and properly uses inserts, fixtures and tooling, and understands and has the ability to perform tool wear offsets
    • Mill & Lathe experience a plus

    MINIMUM QUALIFIFCATIONS / REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and demonstrate the ability to speak and read English. Employees must supply their own hand tools. Knowledge of and experience working with PM software is preferred.     EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or general education degree (GED); Machine tool Technology degree preferred. Minimum of two years developing programs for CNC mills in the manufacturing industry

    • Master Cam Knowledge and experience
    • Understand dimensional inspection requirements

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Practical application of fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion, measurement, logarithms, slide rule, practical algebra, geometric construction, and essentials of trigonometry, and to read and interpret metal rule, caliper and micrometer.

    REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
