Tool, Die, and Gauge Making Supervisor oversees skilled workers responsible for constructing, maintaining, modifying, and calibrating machine shop tools, dies, prototypes, jigs, fixtures and molds. Supervises the set up and operation of various lathes, grinders, milling, and boring machines used to produce tools. Being a Tool, Die, and Gauge Making Supervisor completes high level tool development work. Ensures jobs are completed correctly and on time. Additionally, Tool, Die, and Gauge Making Supervisor may require an associate degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. Job Responsibilities and Specific Skills Needed:
Able to perform a variety of machine and bench operations related to production equipment, dies, molds fixtures, gauges, automated production machines; must work to close dimension and finish requirements. Must be able to diagnosis Machine problems, understand punch presses and shears.
Specific Skills Required: Must posses a journeyman's license (or equivalent) The ideal candidate will have knowledge of tool and die repair, machine technology, layout and precision measuring procedures and tools. Knowledge of material characteristics and treatment applications preferred in addition to knowledge of production equipment repair.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand for extended periods and be physically able to move around machines easily. Lifting and bending are required. Occasionally lifts/carries up to 75-80 pounds; push/pull 60 pounds. Must have hand coordination and be able to climb for elevated activity.
