Tool Design Engineer designs and develops tools and machinery used to facilitate and optimize manufacturing processes. Reviews product design and build requirements to determine tooling concepts, design options, testing plans, and specifications. Being a Tool Design Engineer develops designs for fixtures, jigs, gauges, cutting and forming tools, carts, racks, and other items to support production. Utilizes Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to create accurate, complete, and concise design models and documentation to fabricate tools. Additionally, Tool Design Engineer estimates costs, resource requirements, and materials required for tools. May manage the sourcing, quoting, or procurement of purchased tools. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Tool Design Engineer work is closely managed.     Position Summary:

    Life Cycle Engineering is looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join the LCE team supporting PMS 300 and 325 in Washington, DC. As a Senior Design Engineer, you will provide support for the Hull, Mechanical & Electrical (HM&E); Command, Control, Communications, Computers & Intelligence (C4I); and mission equipment and systems installed aboard ships, boats, craft and targets, including Combat Logistics Force (CLF), Special Mission Ships, and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) assets.


    Clearance Required:
    • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
    Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
    • Provide engineering/technical support for concept studies; feasibility studies; preliminary design activities; contract design activities; detail design and construction activities; independent design reviews; In-service ship design and engineering activities; shipboard installation support; and special studies related to ships/boats/craft, ship systems and/or shipboard equipment.
    • Conduct reliability, maintainability, availability, transportability, hazard, environmental, occupational health, safety, risk analyses, and other system engineering analyses. The Contractor shall provide reports, plans, and other substantiating documentation as required.
    • Facilitate and provide required technical information expertise to Integrated Process Teams (IPTs), special advisory boards, off-sites, working groups and audit teams. The Contractor shall perform research and work along with USCG, ABS, and other key stakeholders, such as, the Military Sealift Command (MSC).
    • Provide support in the development, analysis, testing and certification of materials and their application.
    • Review, maintain and make recommendations with regard to engineering plans, annual reports, program records, technical manuals, design histories, design configurations, databases, regulatory body and other documents.
    • Support ongoing ship Detail Design requirements, including the review of shipbuilder's products and deliverables in accordance with Government requirements and the preparation of analyses and recommendations for decisions to the Program Office.

    Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
    • Bachelors of Science in Engineering
    • Minimum 10 years Navy program management, Government technical management, or Industry business management
    • Experience and knowledge of Navy procedures and Policies (DoD 5000 process)
    • Experience communicating with SES/Flag level personnel; supervisory; ship building experience
    Preferred Skills and Experience:
    • Previous experience as a Design Engineer or a similar role
    • Proven experience using CAD software; knowledge of SolidWorks is a plus
    • Good understanding of safety standards and environmental impact of a design
    • Great computational and spatial ability.
    • Ability to write clear and comprehensive technical documentation.
    • Highly analytical mind, with exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

    Physical Demands and Expectations:
    • Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing; occasional prolonged sitting
    • Ability to speak, read, hear and write, with or without assistance
    • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment
