Tool Design Engineer designs and develops tools and machinery used to facilitate and optimize manufacturing processes. Reviews product design and build requirements to determine tooling concepts, design options, testing plans, and specifications. Being a Tool Design Engineer develops designs for fixtures, jigs, gauges, cutting and forming tools, carts, racks, and other items to support production. Utilizes Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to create accurate, complete, and concise design models and documentation to fabricate tools. Additionally, Tool Design Engineer estimates costs, resource requirements, and materials required for tools. May manage the sourcing, quoting, or procurement of purchased tools. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Tool Design Engineer work is closely managed.     The Design Engineer will be responsible for supporting R&D and production projects. This associate level role will support these projects by developing technical drawings, 2D and 3D models, schematics, wiring diagrams, P&ID’s and updating accordingly. The Design Engineer will work closely with various team members in developing engineering solutions and will assist in keeping project timelines on schedule.

     

    WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

     

    -Support with developing drawings necessary for prototyping, upscaling, and production using CAD and Solid modeling software.

    -Provide hands-on support in the assembly of equipment.

    -Designing and implementing program solutions from concept to completion including training and documentation.

    -Store raw data to external workbook sources to create, edit, and manage collected data.

    -Develop conceptual and detailed designs that ensure a product function, performs, and is fit for its purpose.

    -Meeting with managers and research and development teams (R&D) to understand the parameters of design request.

    -Working with other engineers on different aspects of the same project.

    -Constructing and testing prototypes.

     

    WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

     

    -2 years hands-on engineering experience.

    -Proven experience with Autodesk AutoCAD, and solid modeling in Inventor or Solidworks.

    -Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

     

    OTHER QUALITIES WE’D LOVE FOR YOU TO HAVE:

     

    -Experience with PLCs to communicate with external devices (sensors, actuators) and systems (programming software, SCADA, HMI).

    -Six Sigma.

    -An understanding across multiple areas of engineering and may have advanced understanding in a specific area: Mechanical Design, or Electrical Systems.

    -Applying engineering principals to solve complex problems with little or no guidance.

    The base pay for this position is $30/hr - $35/hr. All positions come with a company bonus and stock options. The actual base pay offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, the applicant’s qualifications for the position; years of relevant experience; specific and unique skills; level of education attained; certifications or other professional licenses held; other legitimate, non-discriminatory business factors specific to the position; and the geographic location in which the position is located.
