Testing Technician performs standard testing processes on a variety of equipment and records and analyzes results. Records data from testing in standard formats and provides results to product and engineering teams. Being a Testing Technician assists technical teams with recommendations to resolve testing problems, roadblocks or equipment malfunctions that impact the performance or validity of testing. Requires knowledge of industry specific tests and testing equipment. Additionally, Testing Technician typically requires an associate degree. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Testing Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Pavement Testing Technician

  • APTech is seeking a pavement testing technician to assist with field data collection activities as part of APTech’s nationwide pavement testing program. The successful applicant will work out of APTech’s corporate office in Urbana, IL and will be part of a team of skilled technicians responsible for operating specialized testing equipment and conducting a variety of related duties. The position is full time and include paid travel expenses and per diem allowance for meals.

    The ideal candidate will have experience with conducting pavement testing and condition assessments, a working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and computer systems, and good communication (verbal and written) skills. In addition, the ideal candidate will have a positive can-do attitude, a strong work ethic, and an ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

    Responsibilities:
    The pavement testing technician position will require field testing travel either in the form of day-trips out of Urbana or multi-day trips with overnight stays. APTech will train and develop the successful applicant on the operation and use of the following specialized testing equipment:

    • Falling weight deflectometer (FWD).
    • Automated distress data collection vehicle.

    Additional job responsibilities include office/shop work activities, such as maintaining and servicing the test equipment and host vehicles, preparing job maps, processing and managing collected test data, using software programs in support of various roadway and airport projects, as well as cleaning and maintaining shop facilities.

    Job Requirements

    Requirements:
    Preference will be given to individuals with previous experience operating a Dynatest FWD or automated data collection vehicle. Other desired qualifications include:

    • An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (such as a construction or engineering technician program, automotive technician program, etc.)
    • Experience with troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing mechanical and electrical systems and devices.
    • Experience with applying troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a hands-on environment.
    • Experience with computer equipment and devices is a plus.
    • Valid state issued driver’s license with a good driving record
    • Experience pulling a trailer with a vehicle is a plus.
    • Experience with CAD and GIS software (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS) a plus.
    • Good overall computer usage skills, including familiarity with the Microsoft Office software suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
    • Good communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
    • Good attention to detail is required.
    • Willingness to travel 25-40% of the time.
    • Flexibility to work overtime and weekends when necessary.

    Compensation:

    Compensation range for this position is $21.00 - $26.00 per hour depending on experience level.
