Test Pilot Manager oversees pilots who test model aircraft to ensure compliance with federal regulations and product specifications. Determines if model is suitable for flying and testing. Being a Test Pilot Manager organizes scheduling for testing and for demonstrations for government officials or customers. Recommends changes to cockpit or aircraft to better meet the pilot's needs or to improve flight. Additionally, Test Pilot Manager assists engineering team in developing tests and maneuvers for test pilots. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to the head of a unit/department. The Test Pilot Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be a Test Pilot Manager typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     Inspect, test, sort, sample, or weigh processed, machined, fabricated, or assembled parts or products for defects, wear, and deviations from specifications. May use precision measuring instruments and complex test equipment.

    What You Drive at DTNA

    • Analyze and interpret blueprints, data, manuals, and other materials to determine specifications, inspection and testing procedures, adjustment and certification methods, formulas, and measuring instruments required.
    • Analyze test data and make computations as necessary to determine test results.
    • Collect or select samples for testing or for use as models.
    • Compare colors, shapes, textures, or grades of products or materials with color charts, templates, or samples to verify conformance to standards.
    • Discard or reject products, materials, and equipment not meeting specifications.
    • Discuss inspection results with those responsible for products and recommend necessary corrective actions.
    • Grade, classify, and sort products according to sizes, weights, colors, or other specifications.
    • Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, and work for conformance to specifications.
    • Mark items with details such as grade and acceptance or rejection status.
    • Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
    • Record inspection or test data, such as weights, temperatures, grades, or moisture content, and quantities inspected or graded.
    • Make minor adjustments to equipment, such as turning setscrews to calibrate instruments to required tolerances.
    • Stack and arrange tested products for further processing, shipping, or packaging and transport products to other workstations as necessary.
    • Performs all duties to the prescribed standard.

    • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
    • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents
    • The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
    • The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
    • Obtaining and seeing to the appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to do certain work.
    • Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
    • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
    • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
    • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, using spreadsheets and databases, designing forms, and communication programs such as email.
    • Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
    • Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
    • Using mathematics to solve problems.
    • Using scientific rules and methods to solve problems.
    • Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    • Light to medium effort equal to frequent lifting or moving lightweight materials
    • Regularly required to sit or stand, bend at the waist and reach knee to head height and overhead reaching
    • Regularly required to kneel or crouch
    • Use hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things
    • Quickly move hands, hand and arm coordination, or two hands to grasp, or manipulate objects
    • Keep hand and arm steady while moving one arm or while holding one arm and hand in one position.
    • Frequent exertion of muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time. This involves muscular endurance and resistance to muscle fatigue.
    • May be required to work on ladders or at elevated heights.

    PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

    • The use of safety glasses, goggles, or a face shield, safety shoes, gloves, and hearing protection is required
    • The use of a respirator, including tight-fitting-seal types, may be required
