Leads engineers and technical support staff in developing and applying advanced engineering theories, methods and research techniques in the investigation and improvement of manufacturing processes and methods.
Plans and directs projects or major phases of projects in areas such as machining, metal forming, plastics processing, welding and brazing, assembly and material handling.
Coordinates the efforts of engineers and technical support staff.
Analyzes, evaluates and plans method of approach and organizes means to achieve the solution to complex technical problems. Establishes and defines the theoretical bases and principles which should apply, the empirical test procedures to be used and estimated time, expenses and manpower for completion.
Conducts investigations or tests of considerable complexity pertaining to the development of new manufacturing operations, major production activities, exploration of product and/or process problems, definition and selection of new concepts and approaches in manufacturing operations.
Investigates literature patents and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.
Reviews projects progress and evaluate results.
Recommends corrections to ensure project objectives.
Specifies equipment, materials and supplies required for completion and implementation of technical projects.
Evaluates vendor capabilities to provide required products or services.
Requirements
Requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering. Requires at least 5 years related experience.
Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
Comprehension of practical applications of engineering science and technology.
Expert use of analytical and CAD software.
Requires expert knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
Highly specialized expertise in mechanical and manufacturing theory and design.
Effective in directing projects and providing work leadership.
