    Description of Work Unit
    Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 157,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city. Fort Collins is situated on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains with views of 14,000 foot peaks, and offers access to numerous cultural, recreational, and outdoor opportunities.

    The Telecommunications team is part of the Enterprise and Applications Department within the Division of IT. This team installs, operates, and maintains data, voice, and video transport infrastructures The team also provisions, supports and maintains the University’s telecommunications infrastructures with the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) for local and long-distance telephone services.

    Position Summary
    This is a full-time, limited-term assignment of two years, subject to renewal or conversion to permanent based on departmental need and funding. During the two-year period, employees will have access to CSU’s comprehensive benefit and retirement programs as well as on-the job training, mentorship and guidance throughout the assignment.

    The role is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of all fiber and copper infrastructure that is the foundation for all data and voice services for CSU system campuses. This position must adhere to industry standards for the installation of fiber and copper infrastructure for both existing and new construction as well as remodel projects. This position’s duties also include testing, repairing and certifying mission critical network and telecommunication connections, meeting both university standards and project requirements.

    A signing bonus of up to $2,500 may be considered for successful candidates.

    Required Job Qualifications
    • High School Diploma (or GED)
    • Two or more years of work experience in industry standards for Telecommunications. Able to install, terminate, and maintain and troubleshoot Telecommunications infrastructures.
    • OSP/ISP identification
    • Knowledge of: Copper, OSP/ISP UTP/Multipair cabling. install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot.
    • Medium exertion of force is required for this position. Work involves frequent standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting and handling with occasional exposure to hot and cold weather or wet and humid conditions.

    Preferred Job Qualifications
    • Knowledge of: Fiber, OSP/ISP. Install, splice, terminate, troubleshoot, test, and maintenance.
    • Experience with fiber/copper-OSP/ISP multipair, strand cabling.
    • Experience with documentation and mapping copper and fiber infrastructures.
    • Experience testing and certifying transmission capabilities specialized testing equipment.
    • BICSI certification.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and blueprints.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail.
    • Experience effectively communicating with technical and non-technical customers

    • Troubleshooting and maintenance of existing and new infrastructure fiber and copper installations for the campus data center, CSU System campuses, Housing and Dining Services, Athletics, E911, and research departments.
    • Repair damages and warranty related issues with cable infrastructure.
    • Test connectivity and data transmission issues with network test equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
    • Maintenance of connected and mated pairs throughout campuses
    • Perform audits, documentation, and OSP insight mapping of campus cable plant.
    • E911 services maintenance and utility repair
    • Assist in maintaining and repairing circuits owned by CSU partners but maintained by CSU staff by agreement, including the Bi-State Optical Network (BiSON) and facilities that connect CSU to the Front Range Giga-Pop.
    • Ability to work irregular hours due to emergency and/or maintenance events to ensure high availability and network stability.

    Duty/Responsibility
    • Responsible for installations of full fiber and copper infrastructure. Includes installation, splicing, termination, and documentation of all fiber and copper cabling for existing campus telecommunication rooms, remodel projects, and new construction. This includes within the campus data center, OSP (Outside Plant) and ISP (Inside plant).
    • Build out telecom rooms, adhering to CSU standards.
    • Build infrastructures for complete installation.
    • Responsible for certification of new and existing fiber and copper infrastructures testing and documenting
    • Documentation of campus fiber and copper infrastructure of new construction and comprehensive remodel projects
    • Maintain detailed records of network designs, installation procedures, test results, and troubleshooting activities.
    • Follow CSU documentation standards of labeling and auditing existing infrastructures, relaying all information to team members and supervisors.
    • Generate comprehensive reports for clients and internal teams, providing updates on project progress and outcomes.
    • Proactively identify opportunities for improvement and innovation for the optimal infrastructure design, installation, and implementation processes.
    • Adhere to industry and CSU standards and codes to ensure the integrity of cable infrastructure.
    • Read and follow detailed construction documents.
    • Ability to work irregular hours in case of emergency and scheduling events
