Telecommunications Supervisor oversees a team of specialists to support the maintenance of an organization's telecommunications system. Coordinates the installation and repairs of telecommunication equipment. Being a Telecommunications Supervisor manages and delegates work orders and assignments. Helps solve and troubleshoot complex issues to mitigate the impact on the performance of the network. Additionally, Telecommunications Supervisor identifies and implements process improvements and leads the implementation of new technologies. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Role and Scope of Position:
Responsible for the planning and engineering design for assigned projects supported by telecom engineering. Primarily involves projects to provide/deliver communication services to or between electric substations. Provides support directly or in collaboration with Technical Services personnel in performing root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and repair of active hardware to meet business requirements. Provides advice in the areas of infrastructure planning, operation, and maintenance which have the potential to affect the availability and reliability of telecommunication services. Owner of the physical network topology design and specifications to maintain the integrity of the network environment. Participates in various projects to continually improve/upgrade the Telecommunications network infrastructure. This is a hybrid role. The first three months are full time in the office.
Essential Functions:
Engineering of telecommunications systems and or services/circuits for Substation Communications. Typically involves multiplexers and associated fiber. Activities include, but are not limited to the following:
Develops communications scope and determines schedule activities
Develops bid specifications
Develops engineering design documentation/drawings
Reviews and provides comments on design documentation produced by outside engineering firms
Procurement of communications materials
Coordination with outside plant fiber contractors
Analysis of fiber testing, validation of acceptance testing
Participates in the implementation and support of plans for Corporate/Enterprise telecommunications networks and services. Activities include, but are not limited to:
Researches and analyzes customer business applications to determine functional requirements
Collects network performance statistics
Identifies potential improvements to communication systems to improve reliability, effectiveness, and efficiency
Conducts engineering economic analyses of system alternatives
Provides consultation and support and demonstrates the ability to effectively define and communicate problems, options, and recommended solutions
Maintains awareness of and ensures compliance with the following:
ANSI, NESC and IEEE standards relating to telecommunications
Federal Communications Commission and local regulatory siting regulations
Company safety procedures
Corporate accounting requirements for telecommunications projects
Provides second level support Technical Service to support internal personnel for problems related to telecommunication systems
Coordinates and reviews the performance of third-party and outside vendors
Acts as representative to Shared Telecommunication Network (STN) Technical Committee
Qualifications:
Experience:
Three (3) to five (5) years related experience
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, IT or related technical field
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
Frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
Knowledge of telecommunication systems
Knowledge of Federal and State regulatory criteria and industry standards pertaining to applications, design, installation, and operations of telecommunication systems
Knowledge of Accounting and Engineering Economic Theory and practice
Knowledgeable of current Telecommunications issues, practices, technology, and related developments
