Telecommunications Engineering Technician assists telecommunication engineers in the design and analysis of telecommunication networks. Creates plans and drawings detailing the layout of routers, circuits, cables, switches, or other telecommunications equipment. Being a Telecommunications Engineering Technician ensures network connectivity for end-users. May evaluate existing networks and recommend design changes to improve performance. Additionally, Telecommunications Engineering Technician requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Engineering Technician is a member of the development team that supports our engineering and design teams with model shop related activities and ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the model shop. You will aid engineers and designers by communicating effectively to troubleshoot equipment issues, maintain supplies and support model builds for new products as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Responsible for maintaining an orderly work area and adhering to safety mandates, work practices and 6S standards.
· Orders routine supplies required to maintain operation of equipment assigned to work shop area.
· Interfaces with engineers and other personnel regarding product information such as design, purpose, and types of materials to be used to prototype product.
· Reviews work orders, written specifications, drawings, rough sketches, and verbal instruction to plan the layout and determine sequence of shop and prototype operations.
· Designs fixtures, jigs, and experimental parts to meet special engineering design needs.
· Sets up and operates machine tools such as hand power tools, drill press, lathe, grinder, etc. as needed.
· Evaluates prototype components for feasibility; coordinates with external suppliers (e.g. machine shops) to prepare prototype components for prototyping.
· Maintains shop equipment to ensure safety and performance.
· Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
· Experience in machining and welding background preferred.
· Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
· Possesses a stable work history and a strong personal desire to work safely and maintain a safe working environment.
· Demonstrated knowledge of basic math, including working with metric.
· Ability to read and understand drawings and work instructions preferred.
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
· Possesses a logical method of problem solving and willingness to learn and improve one’s skills.
· Possesses good hand-eye coordination and is able to perform detailed work with a strong attention to detail and quality.
· Possesses strong time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills necessary to work in a fast-paced environment, handling various tasks and changing priorities, while maintaining a high attention to detail and accuracy to achieve daily assignments and goals.
· Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
· Strong attention to detail with well-developed organizational and communication skills.
· Experience in a mechanical design engineering environment, preferably with consumer goods and specifically with plastic injection molded part design is a plus.
