JOB SUMMARY:
Mississippi Power Company is facing new and interesting business challenges from both the delivery of electricity as well as the information systems that we rely on to provide and bill that service. To meet these challenges, the Rates department is looking for a data-minded problem solver to help implement and manage billing and rate analysis software and data base tools; gather and analyze various data sources (customer, engineering, and billing); as well as document and streamline work processes that support the Company’s pricing design, revenue forecasting, and related functions to ensure collection of approved revenues.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with developing, implementing, operating, and maintaining software tools and systems to support rate design and revenue forecasting, including new systems that are on the horizon.
Provide support to the Rates department on developing innovative rate designs by leveraging customer, billing, and engineering data.
Utilize advanced data mining techniques to effectively gather and aggregate forecasting information from multiple sources, ensuring a comprehensive and accurate analysis of rates.
Drive efficiencies through continuous process improvement.
Document processes and seek out opportunities to streamline workflows for activities within the Rates department.
Analyze data to maintain an understanding of the customer requirements and the impact of rate structures on customer demand and energy usage patterns.
Use your knowledge to collaborate on interdepartmental teams and special projects in support of MPC goals and objectives.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
A Bachelor's degree in a technical field (e.g., computer science, engineering, mathematics, MIS) is preferred
An advanced degree or additional studies in computer science, engineering, or related areas is desirable.
Expertise in database use and programming (Access, Visual Basic, SQL Server) is required.
Quantitative skills to assist with traditional and innovative rate design and cost-benefit and profitability analysis. These include skills in using computer programs and models for researching Company databases and performing analyses on the extracted data.
Software development skills are a strong plus.
Programming experience in SAS, or similar analytics languages, is desirable.
Analytical problem-solving skills, logical reasoning skills, and sound judgment to effectively balance the multiple objectives and constraints faced in handling complex pricing and rate design problems.
Effective communication skills (e.g., writing, speaking, creating presentations) to prepare and present supporting data concerning pricing and rate design issues to internal and external audiences.
Ability to document and help streamline work processes.
Strong skills using Microsoft Office products.
Ability to work and engage in a team environment.
Time management and organizational skills to complete tasks that are subject to regulatory time constraints.
