Job SummaryIn the MWSU Center for Academic Support, tutoring is provided to assist students. All CAS writing tutors are hired because of their knowledge of the disciplines they will be tutoring. The main purpose is to effectively tutor MWSU students one-on-one or in small group settings. Secondary roles include staying up-to-date on discipline knowledge and light clerical responsibilities. We are currently hiring for Writing Tutors.
Essential Duties- Provide academic assistance to students through one-on-one tutoring in person at the CAS or online via Zoom
- Complete rigorous training the first semester to cover clerical responsibilities, discipline knowledge, course content, and tutoring techniques
- Operate the CAS front desk, which includes greeting clients, answering phones, logging clients in and out, and other light clerical tasks
- Build on their knowledge foundation by studying materials and completing exercises that further their understanding of the disciplines tutored
Required Qualifications- MWSU Student
- Degree Seeking
- Enrolled at least part-time
- Must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Recommendation by two MWSU professors
- Must have passed English 104, 108 or 112 with an A or B.
Preferred QualificationsPreference will be given to applicants who received an A in the aforementioned English courses and/or have tutoring experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge in the content area.
Physical DemandsSedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
Additional Demands- Possible online tutoring.
- Must have access to a stable internet connection and a device with working camera, microphone and speakers.
