    GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

    This position is responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of campus safety and security for all Pierpont campuses.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    · Create, revise, and administer all applicable security policies and procedures, providing compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements and reporting procedures. Recommend new protocols or changes to existing protocols.

    · Safeguard all classified and confidential information related to campus safety and security.

    · Serve on appropriate college-wide and community committees.

    · Provide training for and completion of required incident reports and forward reports to Vice President, Finance & Administration and the Safety Committee.

    · Communicate, with the College Administration and with homeland security related agencies as required to address matters of mutual concern.

    · Supervise daily activities and scheduling of campus security personnel, ensuring that there is no lapse in coverage.

    · Work closely with the Maintenance staff in planning for the security of campus buildings and ensure that all safety and security concerns are immediately addressed.

    · Work closely with the Associate Provosts and Deans in planning for the well-being of students and in responding to security-related incidents as these occur.

    · Provide for security coverage and coordinate security coverage, as needed, for major events on campus.

    · Complete regularly assigned safety and security trainings.

    · Serve on, and provide expert assistance to, Pierpont’s Emergency Response Team (ERT), and serve as Chair of the Safety Committee.

    · Serve as the Campus Safety/Security Authority for Clery Act reporting

    · Regularly inspect safety equipment and conduct safety drills.

    · Oversee the planning, development, implementation, and management of the institution’s access control and intrusion detection systems.

    · Accountable for OSHA compliance (e.g. maintaining MSDS logs, fall prevention, proper use of equipment, and other related areas).


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    · Knowledge of current policies, procedures, and strategies related to public safety and security.

    · Knowledge of supervisory and scheduling principles including planning and leadership.

    · Knowledge of computer software used within department including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Excel, and Access.

    · Strong written and oral communications and relational skills.

    · Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and members of the public.

    · Able to operate a variety of office equipment, including computer terminal, printer, calculator, fax, and copier.

    · Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

    · Able to work on-call, work odd shifts, weekends, and holidays as necessary.

    · Able to work independently and to monitor, supervise, and train employees.

    · Able to mentally analyze a situation, solve problems, and make decisions under pressure in area of responsibility.


    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    · An Associate’s Degree and a minimum of three years’ experience relating to safety/security, emergency preparedness, fire prevention, and/or occupational safety is required. Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills and a valid West Virginia driver’s license with clean driving record are also required.

    · A Bachelor’s degree in related field with extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, policies, and procedures that promote campus security and a working knowledge of the Clery Act, Title IX, and VAWA are strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to implement a comprehensive safety/security and emergency response plan is also preferred.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    · Must be able to work days off with overtime as required.

    · Must be able to work inside and outside in extreme weather conditions.

    · May be exposed to stressful or potentially dangerous situations or incidents. Must be able to adapt to rapidly changing environments and continual interruptions.

    · Must be able to: stand for long periods of time; walk, run, climb, bend, stoop and lift weights commensurate with need to perform medical and/or other assistance; sprint for short spans of time; be physically fit and able to use physical force to intervene in situations when necessary.

    · Significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting
