Job Title: Technical Writer

Overview:
The City of Phoenix Community and Economic Development Department is seeking a technical writer to document efforts to bridge the digital divide in Phoenix. Since May 2020, the City has partnered with multiple agencies to create a digital canopy that would provide internet access to K-12 students at no charge to families. To date, the digital canopy has been installed in two Phoenix elementary school districts as a proof-of-concept area and plans are in place to expand to another two elementary school districts. The technical writer will be responsible for reviewing existing documentation, interviewing 12-15 staff from the City, high school district, elementary schools, and from Phoenix College who have been collaborating on this project, and drafting a primer that details the discovery process and implementation efforts of this project so others can replicate this solution.
Professional Competencies: Working knowledge of IT terms related to creating a school-based
system for students and teachers to access internet from home; ability to gather information from interviews with team members and project notes and use that information to create an informative, concise summary.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong writing skills, research experience, ability to
gather data through interviews (in-person or virtual), technical knowledge of systems related to
creating an internet system
