Technical Training Manager leads the design and delivery of technical training programs. Determines training objectives by conducting analysis of overall needs and specific skill or knowledge gaps. Being a Technical Training Manager manages the development of training programs and materials including outlines, text, handouts, hands on exercises, and training evaluations. Establishes processes to monitor results and collect feedback on training instructors to determine effectiveness and identify areas for improvement. Additionally, Technical Training Manager assesses and manages any contractors utilized to deliver specialized training. May manage IT, product, or equipment training depending on the industry and setting. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to an director. The Technical Training Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions.   • CLIENT is currently seeking a Department Manager Structural Engineering

    15 years of experience to manage our Structural Engineering Department in our Hammond, IN, office. This person would provide technical and project execution oversight for various projects. The hybrid position requires project and resource management experience in a consulting environment, and well-rounded expertise in heavy industrial retrofit engineering projects in the utilities, steel, manufacturing, petrochemical, chemical, mining, materials processing and power generation industries. Orbital is evaluating candidates based upon their technical depth of knowledge, field experience and engineering management experience in heavy industrial applications such as:

    Structural steel and concrete

    Soils and foundations

    Geotechnical

    Excavation and shoring

    Buildings and codes

    Ductwork

    Tanks and vessels

    Piping/electrical/equipment supports

    Lifting and rigging

    Design for Safety, including fall protection and OSHA knowledge.

    Structural integrity evaluation and repairs

    Bulk material handling

    The position requires the Department Manager to perform in varying roles related to personnel management, project management, senior technical support, and customer relationship development.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    Responsible for the execution of all activities of the department. Schedule, organize, direct and review all department resources and activities.

    Hire staff, establish individual goals and expectations, and conduct performance reviews. Direct, develop, supervise and provide technical guidance to all direct reports.

    Establish and execute operational plans for the department with respect to routine, tools and resources to ensure consistent operations and growth of skill sets.

    Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department.

    Function as Project Manager and/or Senior Engineer on specific projects as required.

    Prepare and guide/supervise the preparation of single or multidiscipline engineering proposals including development of scopes of work, project schedules and cost estimates.

    Prepare, review and/or check engineering calculations, designs, drawings and other project documents related to this specific discipline on projects as required.

    Certify and PE-seal various designs, drawings and documents as required.

    Develop, maintain and upgrade technical standards/specifications to be used on specific projects, as well as centralized design basis and historical references.

    Provide enhanced customer support as a technical liaison and support regional business development initiatives as a technical resource.

    Support the organization through interaction with managers and staff at other CLIENT offices, including recruiting and training efforts.

    Ensure all department operational and project activities are completed in accordance with CLIENT's Project Management system through implementation and enforcement of stated policies and requirements.

    Lead projects with a variety of durations, prioritizing both long-term planning, as well as provide leadership in a fast-paced engineering environment requiring expedited turnaround.



    Qualifications

    Bachelor of Science Degree in Structural and/or Civil Engineering.

    Professional Engineer (PE) License is required. Structural Engineer (SE) license is preferred.

    Project Management Training and/or PMP Certification are a plus.

    A minimum of 15 years senior level engineering experience in the heavy industrial environments and marketplaces served is required.

    Successful experience in leadership roles managing engineering teams and/or engineering departments is also required, preferably in a consulting engineering environment.

    Superior communication and interpersonal skills with clients and engineering personnel are essential.

    Project management experience including an understanding/use of project management and project control principles/tools is also preferred.

    Candidates should have a thorough understanding and aptitude in the use of current computer software including business enterprise and project management tools, as well as structural analytical and FEA software suites. Knowledge of land surveying, 3D design, and Lidar is a plus. Some field engineering work and business development travel will be required from time to time.
