We are hiring a Director of Product Engineering to join our team. We have a hybrid work environment with 2 days working remotely, and 3 days in office.

SUMMARY: Are you an experienced engineering manager looking for an opportunity to make a big impact and lead a tight-knit team of creative and highly technical developers in the field of publishing? Then this is the role for you. As our Director of Product Engineering, you will be in a highly visible position and play a critical part in the architectural vision, product implementation and day-to-day operation of the applications used to create and deliver our consumer products and services. You will form strong relationships across the organization and report to the VP of Technology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet the department’s objectives.

• Lead a cohesive Agile team of about 15 internal and external software engineers with a range of technical expertise and levels of experience.
• Set clear priorities, monitor productivity, coach, mentor and provide constant feedback to the team.
• Work with this team and the VP of Technology to develop a multi-year technical strategy for our applications and a tactical, iterative execution plan to make that vision a reality.
• Create a team environment that promotes productivity and collaboration and look for opportunities to inspire creativity and technical growth.
• Work with the team to define and implement best practices with respect to application architecture, development processes, deployment strategies and coding standards.
• Collaborate with other managers throughout the organization on the design, development and support of product-driven initiatives.
• Advocate for the engineering team throughout the organization, looking for regular opportunities to share our work and celebrate our wins.
• Maintain constructive relationships with our vendors and consultants and administer service agreements.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

• Excellent written communication and presentation skills, including the ability to clearly explain the impact of highly technical issues to non-technical audiences.
• Deep knowledge of web development's best practices, architecture and design.
• Solid understanding of the architecture options in an AWS serverless environment and ability to lead the team in implementing CI/CD pipelines.
• Understanding of the specific technical challenges associated with content-driven systems and search technologies, and experience with a variety of CMS/ECM platforms.
• Self-motivated, well-organized and detail-oriented with demonstrated analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong leadership qualities with a studied approach to building and nurturing high-performing teams.
• Exceptional customer service orientation.
• Passionate about staying on top of technology trends and looking for opportunities to experiment with and apply those technologies in our environment in a way that advances our mission.
• BA/BS degree in Information Technology or related field. Equivalent years of experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
• 5 years of experience leading Agile projects required.
• 5 years of people management experience leading technical teams required.
• Experience implementing complex systems in an AWS serverless environment using React and NodeJS and familiarity with database systems (e.g. NoSQL, graph, MarkLogic).
• Strong knowledge of current and emerging web content management and delivery trends.
• Prior experience as a hands-on developer.
