This position reports to the Vice President of Engineering, with a very close working relationship with the Business Unit Manager and Project Manager. The role acts as the Project Engineer (PE) and is responsible for the definition of the avionics system, software & hardware requirements and their subsequent management and verification through development and qualification testing.
Duties and Responsibilities:

- Conceptualize, analyze, design, develop and integrate air data systems. Cradle to grave ownership of the new product.
- Support proposal efforts by leading the team to deliver a technical proposal, which includes the design concept, compliance matrix, cost estimate, and timeline.
- Utilize requirement management tools to effectively provide traceability, decomposition, change impact analysis, and verification/validation in support of a structured development process to meet industry-standard guidelines.
- Compose system requirements and decompose to lower levels for aerospace technologies including:
- High-speed digital busses, including MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, RS-485, CAN, Ethernet, and USB.
- Small form-factor power supplies to drive both internal electronics and external to the aircraft heaters.
- Air data computing devices using CPUs, microcontrollers, DSPs, etc.
- Control circuitry for heating and probe positioning, including PID and LQG controllers.
- Dynamic response modeling of avionics devices including external to aircraft air data sensors.
- Mathematical modeling of dynamic systems composed of air data sensors and associated connections. This includes the modeling of uncertainties in the system performance and the determination of resulting uncertainty stack-ups.
- Support the hardware and software design groups, as well as the verification and validation stream, in the interpretation of requirements for implementation and testability.
- Write test requirements in support of qualification testing of designs and acceptance testing of product prior to final delivery to customers.
- Support the sustaining engineering of existing products.
- 7 years of engineering experience in aerospace new product development.
- Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or equivalent experience.
- Must be able to work with ITAR products and related data without restriction.
- Experience leading teams for new business pursuits and proposals.
- Excellent writing, oral, and reporting skills: produce/present technical documentation, customer briefings.
- Flexible and able to work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
- Ability to resolve problems quickly.
- Experience with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, DO-178B, DO-160 and DO-254 Verification and Validation Activities.
- Experience in electronic hardware and firmware design, typically with products related to avionics and/or flight controls.
- Experience using one or more of the available requirements management tools such as DOORS, Requisite Pro, Reqtify, etc.
- Experience using modern configuration management, problem reporting, and action item tracking tools.
- Restrictions are limited only by individual’s inability to perform essential job duties and where an unsafe condition would result for the individual or surrounding employees.
